    Hi folks,

I applied for two summer placements this year-I'm in my third year of civil engineering:

One is working abroad on Bridge Eurocodes for 4 months. I'm at stage 4/4 of the application process- I've been nominated for the job and am the only person to be put forward so i'm pretty much all the way there. When I'm finished in this job, that's it, no job when I graduate, just a handshake and a summer abroad.

The other is with one of the big civil engineering firms, I applied for their scholarship program which means a summer job on site and then a bit of financial aid in my final year. If I perform adequately during the summer placement and in my finals, I'll be eligible for their graduate training scheme and hopefully a job when I'm finished my degree. I've been fully accepted for this one, I just need to sign the forms.

I'm really at a loss as to which one to take (assuming i get the first). I initially thought I'd missed out on the scholarship and when I was notified about the foreign one I put all of my energy into that and totally forgot about the scholarship.

Sooo......which one would you guys think is more beneficial to my career?

I don't want to mention the names of the companies involved for obvious reasons!

go for the scholarship with the big Civil engineering company. You will have good opportunities for when you finish. Also the financial aid in the final year will really help in devoting more time to your studies. They may also be some help in your final year project as they would have a lot of resources,

But it does depend on what you will be doing. If you are just getting the tea for the senior engineers than i see little point

Yeah, the scholarship one sounds a lot more interesting. Plus you get to put on your CV that you have won a scholarship, and that finally you're getting helped with cash for final year! I assume you have the option to not go with them after you finish?
