Photo Sizes in Threads

    Hi All,

I'm wondering is there a conventional max limit for a photo size in threads. I had thought it was 500 pels on the long edge, or 500 on the horizontal?

I've noticed people's pictures, particulalry in the random photo thread getting bigger and bigger.

It's quite annoying when viewing in a windowed screen while at work, and pushes all the text out to a big long line, where I have to scroll to read.

What's the deal with this? Am I wrong and there is no max limit? Should there be one?

EDIT: I'm pretty sure I've broken this 500 thing myself a couple of times

    or 500 on the horizontal?

500 pixels horizontal sounds about right to me. Maybe there's some tweak the boards admins can make to prevent linking to a wider image?

Sometimes, a larger photo is needed to demonstrate something specific, like a panorama image.

Wouldn't a smaller post with a link to the larger image suffice?

If more people used this link there wouldn't be a problem:

    It is kinda annoying.

Give a medium sized version of it in the thread that is linked to the full sized one for if anyone is that interested in it. A panorama would be easier to view on another page rather than in the middle of a forum layout anyway.

    As stated in the charter:
Keep images under 700px on the longest side. If you want to post larger images, you can link to them.

Maybe I have to start getting all 'bad cop' on that lot... will take a look at lunchtime.

Normally I post from Flickr so I use the medium size from there.

I think another problem which arises is people quoting photographs which just appear on top of their post which is a bit pointless.

Having small display on my laptop, I would appreciate max. 700 pixels wide and 500 pixels tall.
