    Hi There,

I'm after losing my P45. Do I really need to go back to my old employer and get a new copy? - I would really prefer not to take this route.

I need it for Monday. Can I just go to my local tax office and get a new one or something to hand in for a p45. I'm starting work Monday and they said they need my P45. Of course I've such a habit of leaving things until the last minute :(

    Thanks.

Ring the tax office and get a new one, or get the employer tax number, ring up the tax office yourself, and give your tax number, their tax umber, and bingo: all will be fixed.

    Thanks

I found my Certificate of Credits that lists the previous company I with so that might be enough for now until I get in contact with the tax office.

    Cheers.

The new company don't strictly need the P45, but somewhere down the line you'll probably have to declare how much tax you've paid this year, otherwise you'll underpay and could be chased by Revenue.

The old company can charge you a fee for issuing a new P45 or may refuse to do it at all

I'm not sure what the employer's side is in this - does the old employer issue a statement to Revenue too or are Revenue only interested in the balance at year end?

Looking at some google image of what a P45 looks like I got one. I would definetely have noticed it was my p45 if it said p45 on top of it and would have kept it safer.
I think all I got was a payslip.

Anyways, i'll worry later on about it. Thanks for you help

hey, i had the same problem, i rang up the tax office and they sent me out a copy which had been printed off their computer, not a new p45 wasn't sure if it would be accepted, but the tax office stamped it and the company i started with accepted. only took 2-3 days for them to send it out too which was great.
