I have just got a dell xps420 an was trying to connect it to my tv its a Goodmans GTVL26W8HD 26' HD Widescreen LCD TV NICAM. I had got a dvi to vga cable but no picture shows up. It just says no signal on screen. Does anyone know how to get picture up?

    2 things!
    1. make sure the PC is outputting a signal, and
    2. make sure you have a good cable! they might have the right connectors but they don't all do the trick!
apart from that, i know nothing of them, only what i've heard. enjoy!

Thanks wooly Have tried pc on a comp monitor and works fine. The cable I think is a Belkin was told they are fairly good but I have not been able to try it out on anything else to see does it work.

    Hey dude,

I had this exact same problem wit my 420. I've got a jvc 32" myself. Check the tv manual, go to the specs/connectors page(the 1 wit all the resolution details and inputs n all that stuff). it should tell u what resolution ur tv can accept via vga input. My tv can only display my pc wen its set to 1280x1024. If the pc res is set to anything else it cant be displayed. make shur u check ur refresh rate too.

    Hope this helps

slightly off topic but is the 420 any good? was thinking of getting one myself with quad core and 4gig ram.

In my opinion the 420 is an GREAT machine for the price i paid 4 it (€946, Q6600, 3gb RAM, 8800gt) . I use mine mostly for web browsing, avi to dvd converting, as an entertainment pc and i also do a fair bit of gaming. I find with my spec i can play almost all games on full settings, cept crysis of course:(. If u are pretty handy wit computers then building your own would probly be a better option, but as a pre built pc this is a great option. The only fault i have is the bloatware that comes with it(which is easily removable) and its lack of overclockability. But if ur not into overclocking or anything like that then this pc is excellent. If you have any specific questions about the 420 just ask.

    :D:D

cheers for the info! just have to save up alittle bit more money now!! think that offer ends soon . sounds like a good machine tho! my pc takes about 1.5 hours to convert an avi to dvd so hopefully that wud speed up!

Well to put it in context, my 420 converts a 730mb avi in 14mins and then takes another 13 to burn fully.

Try ebay Turbo got mine there brand new 12mts warrenty for 525 minus monitor hence the trouble. If I can sort out the tv will save another 160 and get a 26 screen instead off a 22.

i didnt even consider ebay for a pc but the prices do seem good! and the fact that you got a 12 month warranty is a plus!
