Health Insurance: earliest claim (how long before claim?)

    Hi there,
Just about to get private health insurance and have heard that if I get insurance today, it could be 6-months before I can make a claim? (sounds like an awfully long time to me)

Can anyone tell me if that's true, or how long it actually would be before I can make a claim?

(Considering Vivas or Quinn. Looking for basic cover, don't expect to be making any claims but if anything big happened I'd like to be covered for that.)

Yeah normally 6months. but sometimes if you do it in a group scheme eg work or your local credit union they'll waive the 6 months afaik

Didn't have a waiting period with Vivas, but I don't know if that was a special offer or because I went through work.

If you can't get it through work, the following limitations will apply:

Impertant to remember that waiting periods only apply to illness.

    Accidents are covered straight away.

Illness present prior to joining may have longer waiting periods (5 years)

Some company plans will waive all waiting periods
