    Boats are fun.
You do need water and have a recovery method figured out for emergency though, be it spool of fishing line, weight and catapult, or whatever.

I have done several. My last was a 1/4 scale Formule One Tunnel with a 11cc outboard.

I have got two boats as work in progress right now as it happens. A 28" scratch-built 1966 33ft Fairey Swordsman speedboat, and a rather bigger marine bathymetric surveyor.

BTW regarding the yachts .... People tend to forget - yachts are like kites - no fun in nice weather .... but on a windy day they're hot.

Yeah I suppose a really big boat would be deadly alright. I dunno about a small one though.

I have a pal who used to do glowfuel airboats.
Now he makes scratch built hydrofoils from metal and wood.
They are very fast. The canal is very narrow when a model is going at the speeds he gets up to.

I have an unused ducted fan jet unit lying around somewhere ... been toying with the idea of making a small fast hull to test out as a turbine jet air-boat. Given the speeds of ducted fan efflux, that would be a fast model indeed, cheap and simple to make too.

Got a couple of other projects to finish first. :-)
