Where would I find a Ducellier distributor?

    Hi,

I'm trying to get my DAF going again, but have discovered that my distributor is dead. It's repairable, but I really need it on the road pronto.

Anyone know where to start looking for a cheap locally sourced Ducellier distributor similar to those fitted to Renault Cleon/Sierra type engines (1108cc) It doesn't need to have the same advance curve, just a clockwise rotating effort so I can get the thing quickly mobile and give me time to either source one abroad or fix the original.

    (Ducellier 4468 - R248D59)

    Cheers,
    Rich

    Hi Rich

Check out 123ignition.nl - they do replacements for Ducellier distributors, not sure about the one for the DAF. I thought I had a Ducellier in the boot of my car, but it's actually an SEV Marchal, sorry.

    Thanks for reply.

Can't see anything on the 123ignition site in the sort of shape of a Ducellier for Renaults. Besides I've got a Pertronix Ignitor here and if I'm going fully electronic, then I might as well fit a Megajolt. On top of that, I'm trying to get this going now rather than wait for bank transfer and a postman.

Any good scrap yards that with loads of older Renaults that I could potentially raid for a bunch of dizzy spares?

I might have one hanging around; I've a crate of Sierra series engine parts from old R5s with the R1222 956cc lump. I'll have a look in the morning and let you know.

It would be fantastic if there was one hanging around. Thanks in advance for having a look.

Thanks for the replies so far.

One small point that has been missed, are the words "locally sourced". I could probably find most bits for my car in it's native Netherlands (or anywhere else in Europe for that matter), but post/payment delays are something I wish to avoid on this occasion.

What happens with these dizzies (as I've found out now) is that the distributor advance weights are pivoted on nylon bushes. These break up and leave the pivot end of the bob-weight flopping around. This in turn puts a load of strain on the other end of the weight which moves in and out along a slot and is clipped in with an E-circlip. This breaks and the weight either flies out further than intended and gouges the body of the dizzy or just ends up coming free and landing in the bottom of the unit. So more of less any other Ducellier dizzy would be fine as I'm looking to raid one of the steel pivot rollers which has shattered and will probably find something to re-bush the pivot holes with something other than plastic which should make it last substantially longer.

Caps / points / rotors / condensors are not a problem to get, it's just the bits (that break) and they don't sell on their own!

Just checked and I have a 4440B R268C34 if that's of any use. I'll have it in Bray tonight. You can reach me on 086 - 878 3151

    Bingo!

I've had it apart tonight and see that the only bits that look different are the advance slot plate and the advance springs.

The nylon bushes have gone, but given the general good condition and lubrication of the weight mechanism, etc., means that it is still in once piece where it counts.

I have enough bits now to rebuild one with a correct curve and get mobile again.

    Once again, many thanks! :D

Fitted the distributor made of various parts yesterday and got the car running well Sunday morning. Fantastic to be out on the road again so soon. Cheers!

I will get round to a more comprehensive rebuild of the original unit in due course, but I'm back on the road which is what counts. :D
