Buying flash for Canon 30D

Hey
Looking for some advice on buying a flash for my 30D.
I am involved in the production of a college magazine and will have to take a large number of pictures in the coming months. I will no doubt need a proper external flash and they will have to be the best possible quality shots I can manage.
The shots will mainly be people but will be in all different types of light

So the question is what flash to buy? Does it have to be Canon or would sigma be ok? Whats the difference?
Heres the slight problem, I need it asap so probably have to buy from 7dayshop as cant really wait for Keaphoto..

Sigma 530 dg super
I have the older version of this..The 500dg super and im very pleased with it..It is my first flash so i cant compare it but im very please with the results..AFAIK i think there is someone selling the 500DG super on adverts for €200 im sure you could make an offer and it will be to you quicker than 7dayshop maybe you could even collect it depending on where you are both situated

It will work ok with Canon 30D?

I do and it works fine on the eos 20D
