    Hi all,

Doing a part-time IT course at the mo.

Lecturer touched on a net mask today, when talking about IP addresses?

What is a net mask, and what doe it do?

Is it the same as a subnet?

    Thanks

I'm surprised you'd bother asking that here when you have access to the internet.

I had a look at that but it still makes no sense to me

Thanks for the link though :)

Typically the two terms are interchangeable. So yes, subnet mask is the same as netmask.

Thanks for that. Will get the books out at the weekend and study up.

Just had a look at the drumming site in your signature - way to organize your hobby, fair play.
