    Hi There

I have been on the contraceptive pill microlite for the last few years , im 25 years old.
I feel i need to change my pill as i have depression and anxiety bouts and feel as though i only feel myself for 1 week out of every month ... its crazy but for the other weeks im bloated , moody , depressed ,angry and totally paranoid...and of course this is effecting my relationship with my partner of 3 years... some days he will be able to have a laugh and a joke with me and the next im biting his head off... my emotions are all over the place constantly feel racked with guilt for being so irrational ....
has anyone had similar experiences and can anyone recommend a better pill , any advice welcome...

Every girl reacts different to different pill. Maybe try talking to GP as you may need to try few of them to find a prefect one for you. There are also Evra patches which can be a great alternative to pills.

I have heard that this works but at the same time coming off the pill is one of the best things I've ever done. With my boyfriend nearly two years and came off the pill a year and a half ago having been on it for three years.

Within a month I noticed differences in my mood, appearance and general wellbeing- probably not helpful but if you're using another form of contraception (ie condoms) and theres no chance of mistakes with this (hasn't been for us so far) then try it- you have to expect some kind of side effects with every form of prescribed contraception because they are controlling hormone production.

I'm not 100% sure but think that microlite is the pill with the lowest dose of hormones so if that isn't suiting you the other pill's available probably wouldn't be much better.

im too scared not to be on the pill but god there has to be something better than this ... ive heard of a pill that has different doses of hormones through the differnet stages of the month, has any one tried this one ??
i always thought that ive had no side effects to the pill but lately when i add everything up and join all the dots all the issues i have seem to be pointing towards the pill...but im worried if i try another pill for a month and it doesnt agree with me that ill become a monster altogether !!!!!

If you think its the pill, well then come off it. A different one might have a better effect on your system. But noone here can tell you better than your doctor what to use. There are many more contraceptive options out there, so hopefully youll get something more suited to you. You might feel a bit topsy turvy when you change over, but give it time to settle.

Every pill affects every woman differently. We can't offer you advice on which pill will suit you best, as we simply don't know. Go to your GP, ask their advice and maybe consider trying another type of pill under their supervision.

Yes it is, both it and Yasmin are the lowest dose pills there are. If Microlite is causing this many side effects you should really go to your Family Planning Clinic and discuss other options available to you.

Yasmin is not a low dose pill...

OP for every person who says they've had a good experience with a certain contraception, there will be another who had a bad time with it. Its really something you need to research yourself and discuss with your doctor.

How can you be sure its the pill doing this? If youve been on it for years and its only in the last few months maybe your just feeling low? Some people find its like the placebo effect with the pill, they imagin side effects. Yasmin did have a very bad effect with me, microlite was much better. Now I'm on the patch and its great.

Do try a few different things, with help from the doc - if they arnt giving you the info you need, go to a well women clinic (I went to one on suffolk st if your in dub). If it does turn out to be hormones effecting you, the nurva ring I *think* has one of the lowest doses of hormones. Its just a pain to have to insert and take out. If your having problems with hormones I personally would not suggest the injection (I had my period and felt like I had severe pms for months).

Just make sure to be very very carefull if you decide to go off any the pill for a while, I know im stating the obvious but do use condoms every time and use them well.... if you dont want the babies that is!

    Good luck!
