Is Prime Time running from Bertie Ahern at the Tribunal?

Maybe its me, but when the primary current affairs programme on RTE TV has not given a single minute to the fallout from the latest testimoney at the Mahon Tribunal that is a failure of Public Service broadcasting.

While the programme has a certain amount of pre-programmed scheduling to its output such as marking 10 years of the GFA, Prime Time being a current affairs show should be able to make space for a genuinely important development in an important story. Tonight the programme once again choose not to give it time (unless I missed it somehow). The next edition is on Thursday. Here's hoping.

    Mike.

Is Prime Time supposed to devote a programme to every detail that emerges from the tribunal?

The developments in the tribunal were widely reported on RTE News on television and on the radio last week, that was enough.

can't remember the last time prime time did a ep on the tribunal, it should be on everynight atleast scrap the crappy films, VB was giving out about the dail going on holidays and then he's off for the week too.

check out gavin's blog for some highlights showing he should have quit years ago.

In a case where the Taoiseach's evidence has been torn apart then yes they should be. But wait, his diary is so full now it'll be ages before he can be appear in front of the Tribunal and he'll have time to come up with a new range of stupid excuses. Maybe he'll remember a bit of what he previously forgot this time. That'd be a turn up for the books although it'd be convenient for him to remember that he actually converted the money into sterling beforehand.

I remember them giving it lengthy coverage last time he was in the hot seat - they had reconstructions and everything.

They have been quiet on this case but if I'm not mistaken Carruth wasn't expected to be much of a witness and gave her evidence on the Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd, the most important stuff coming on the 22nd.

If so it would have been difficult for PT to cover it until Tuesday 25th at which stage the topic had been covered 100 times over on RTÉ and everywhere else... they would have had nothing to add to the discussion and would have just been telling the viewer what they already knew.

Far better spending their time on something new rather than something old I think; I'm sure they'll give plenty of coverage when Bertie returns in May (I think that's when he's back).

    well they covered it tonight.

i tuned in expecting to hear about dennis o brien and his take over of INM but they bumbed it so they could cover what harney and gormley said today about bert having to explain carruths revelations.

better late than never i suppose :D

The government did what for them was the best thing possible - they ignored the calls from the PT office. No live target = short feature.

    yeah. when i doubt STFU ! :)

works more times than ya think . funnily enough dennis obrien did the same when they called him about the INM buy over. only commented on the tawdry nature of gavin o reilly bringing a letter from obrien to the indo over the olympics to public attention in order to paint him as childish.
