    Heard about a student that lost all of her student fees (overseas student so a lot of fees) because of one of these scams. Some people do get taken in by them. Usually people who don't spend enough time on the internet.

    I think Donal McIntyre (undercover reporter) did an expose on it, but back when it was mostly done by mail. The Royal Mail were intercepting 250K letters a year, so God knows how many got through. I think I read that it was worth billions a year to the Nigerian guys.
