I have a quick question about getting a through ticket to the US. Last time I flew through Heathrow, my luggage was checked all the way to LA but this time it looks like I'll be flying through Atlanta. I heard somewhere that I can't get a through ticket if my flight changes in the US. Does anyone know if it's true? Thanks!

You can get a ticket no problem - but you'll need to allow a few hours for the connection. You have to collect your baggage, go through customs and reload it (no need to get new luggage tags, but you have to move it from one area to another) before getting on the connecting flight. I'd say at the very least you'll need 2 hours, especially in Atlanta, which can be very busy at times. You'll need even longer if you don't clear customs in Shannon or Dublin. If you're booking the ticket on the same airline all the way to LA then you shouldn't have a problem if you miss the flight (I'm assuming it's Delta?).

If you haven't booked the ticket yet, then you could fly Air France via Heathrow or Charles de Gaul to LA - and they're normally cheaper than Delta. They've got a sale on LHR - LAX flights for the next few months - they're direct from LHR/CDG, so it's a lot less hassle to connect on the outward leg.
