Hi I woul just like to know what one can do if you've asked for your 4 weeks annual leave and have been told you cannot take it, and it is at the companys discretion, the law states you are entitled to four weeks leave according to the working time act 1997 , but it is not enforced. Any feed back would be welcome.

    Thanks:mad:

Your employer is allowed tell you when you can take your annual leave.

Are you not allowed take holidays at all?

usually your contract will say how many days you can take off at the same time. i know a lot of companies limit it to no more than 10 working days, which basically means with weekends included would be 2 weeks annual leave at any one time.

you are supposeed to get roughly 4 weeks holidays but this over the total year. you are in no way entitled by law to get 4 weeks off in one go.

Some companies allow you take your 4weeks in one go others don't. Have you discussed with your line manager?

If it's exceptional cases eg your wedding they would facilitate this not too sure what your reason is though

As has already been pointed out when you are allowed to take your leave is at the discretion of your employer. If you have worked for more than eight months you should be entitled to request an unbroken two week holiday but the dates will still be at their discretion.

Dates at their discretion, quite simply because they need to keep some staff on, esp during the summer. So when stafff take hols it needs to be dispersed evenly
