Intel viiv core 2?

Does anyone know what these are like in relation to the regular core 2 from intel?!
Dell have a quad core system featuring these (inspiron 530) from 780e - was considering purchasing.
Anyone any opinions on the processor?!

its like a minimum set of multimedia features that let it use the viiv sticker
dual core processor, 7.1 hd sound, media centre or vista

could have viiv and still be a slower processor than a non viiv machine

I thought it was another type of chip!

It's not software it's a platform. It doesn't help the chip in any way. It just shows that a computer has certain things like the ones eolhc lists above. An intel viiv core 2 duo e6850 is the same processor as an intel core 2 duo e6850.

I always thought viiv meant 64-bit? ("VI IV")

well the centrino sticker did ensure you were getting a pentium m and not a celeron or older pentium 4

the viiv pc's should be decent hardware, wouldn't be worried about it myself, but if you want a decent media centre pc and don't know what you're buying it might be a useful indication of whats a decent spec and whats more a budget machine

Centrino is just a scam to sell more Intel products. In several current Dell laptops, the only difference between a normal Core 2 Duo system and a Centrino Duo system is that the former has a Broadcom wireless card instead of an Intel one.

Viiv doesn't sound as bad since Intel don't make audio codecs (or do they now?), TV capture cards, etc., but still forces an Intel processor, chipset and NIC on you.

A dual core is a processor with 2 cores. a core 2 duo is a type of dual core. There is also the pentium dual core which have hald the cache of the core 2 duos.

Any difference between the core 2 duo and the pentium dual core? Well there is the cache which does make a difference. How much of a difference I don't know but the core 2 duos are better than the pentium dual cores.
