I've just learned I have to go into hospital for a few days(nothing serious, )
(well I hope so anyway :)). Anytime I play on line its in the office or at home on a pc. I rang the hospital and they said there was no probs bringing in a laptop. She told me there was no internet access in the hospital. I've heard it can be done through your mobile but as I'm not very computer litterate, I'm hoping someone on here could explain it to me within the next 1.5 hours.

    Heres hoping anyway!

You can use most phones as a modem but you would want to check with your operator as to the costs. They will probably be able to tell you how to set it up as well.

Vodafone, O2 and 3 all have mobile broadband. It requires 3G coverage where you are going to use it and this isn't as available as they would have you believe. You also will have to purchase a modem (about €50 ) usb connection. My advice would be call to your local vodafone/o2 shop and ask them will it work where you are going

You can always try Aces Royal thats just on your mobile. They started with just limit but I heard they were introducing nl and the quality is supposed to be pretty poor. It doesn't seem much fun but better than sitting doing nothing just about.

I use Three Mobile Broadband and Prima and Crypto are the only networks that function without problems. Betunfair, IPoker have huge lag and DC problems.(I recently learned that this is common to iPoker anyway).

The hospital probably has its own wi-fi network anyway, surely any hospital worth its salt has it these days.

    Get well soon anyway.

    Hi connie

All three operators offer no quibble trials - 02 is probably best as its more expensive than voda & three and were latecomers to the market. (basically the more people on the network, the slower it is)

As for operating it, its simply plug & play.

Yes, O2 and Vodafone are probably better options then 3 (who are getting roasted on the broadband forum).

It connects by USB and is fairly easy to install... Give me a shout if you need a hand with it.

Check with the hospital because if they have a wifi connection that will probably be better...

    DeV.

I got the vodafone broadband about a month ago for down here in waterford , works perfectly , fairly quick & rarely disconnects . Only downside was that i had to sign a minimum of a 1 year contract , only here for another month or so & wont be needing it when i get back home - anyone know what the story is if u cancel ur contract - do u have to buy your way out of it ?

All three networks would are fine for what they are meant for (downloading emails, surfing the web), if you are in a town big enough to have a hospital then there should get decent 3G coverage. I have experience on all 3 of the networks and they are all pretty good. Vodafone is probably the best coverage wise and O2 and 3 have the fastest speeds with soon to be 3 the fastest as they are starting to upgrade to 7.2meg.
To be honest I wouldn't be playing big stakes with a connection like this as it isn't ever going to be reliable enough and way more likely to DC than fixed line broadband.

Best thing you could do is sign up to Vodafone and take it back after 14 days saying that you live outside a 3G coverage area like somewhere on the Ring of Kerry as coverage is terrible there!!!

Yeah this happened me recently, I had to get a 3 broadband one because of my new job. Vodafone told me that I could end it but would have to pay €20/month for the remaining months or I could get someone else to take over the remainder of the contract which I done in the end.
The other thing they offered me to do was change the price plan to one that you could use with a mobile phone but I wasn't able to port my old number onto this contract so you would have to keep the phone number which is on the sim card in the modem.

    One thing to consider strongly

While the hospital may allow laptops, many do not allow the use of cell phones or the signals they carry (such as mobile broadband)

Also, the way many hospitals are built, and with all the electronic equipment, it is hard to maintain a continuous, steady connection.
