Vegas '08 - Boards house.

So in the other Vegas 08 thread a few people showed interest in possibly getting a house for the WSOP.

I'd be up for it but would like to have it sorted sooner rather then later.

I don't mind taking care of it with regards to arranging it etc. but I wont be arriving earlier then the 15th of June so possibly if anybody is their for the entirety of the world series it would be best left to them.

I've put in a poll so that its easy to see a list of people who are interested.

    Interested? 11 votes

    Yes
    0%
No, but I still want to post in a poll.

I organised a house last year, and for what its worth I'll put some advice in this thread.

Only deal with a reputable real estate agent. We nearly got ripped off the year before. Get references and ring them, and when speaking to the real estate agent get a name a real estate license number for Nevada from them, an office number and also a business name or trading name. Check all this info with the Nevada Real Estate Division. You can query the database here: http://red.prod.lookup.nv.gov/SearchCriteria.asp Also, do a google on the both the name, business and also number and make sure there were no complaints about them from previous tenants.

They will send you a lease by email. Make sure the address for the house is in the lease, and do a google map search to make sure it's located where they say it is. Also, if you can be bothered (I wasn't) you can ring the house itself (or the neighbours) and make sure the house exists and is usually rented. You can find their numbers doing a reverse lookup with the address in the lease (http://www.411.com/reverse_address). They probably won't appreciate the call, but if it's not rented out they'll let you know... I know this sounds overkill, but you'll be sending a serious amount of cash over before you go (50% a month before and the balance a week before was what we had to do) and you need to be sure.

When you arrive buy a disposable camera and take pics of each room (we didn't bother last year but were lucky in the end and only had to pay $50 or something for a broken chair).

I also have a contact who was very good last year if you want his name/number.

Also, loads of people will reply saying they are in for the house, but the order of preference should not be who replies first, it should be who pays first.

edit: They usually rent by either the night, week, fortnight or month. The longer you stay the cheaper the rate. If you are stayign for a month make sure to get the monthly rate, and not 31 times the daily rate!

    Not going this year?

Did you enjoy staying in the house? What are the pros and cons? Would you do it again or get a hotel room?

    cheers.

    N.

Nicky, the house is 1000 times better than a hotel room, the only con I can think of is that it can be difficult to get a taxi to the strip friday and saturday evenings but solved by getting a couple of taxi drivers cards. Pros - far cheaper, wireless, cook your own food, get away from the strip whenever you want, easy to make tea if you bring teabags, pool table etc etc etc

yes i would defo be interested in this if could pm me some details whenever you get an idea of what your thinkin of?/ie price range and dates dates that suit me at the moment would be 19thjune to the 19thjuly as you pick up 1 $1000 wsop tourney + 2 $1500 wsop tourneys and main event is on from 6th july to the 15th july + i was told the venetian deep stack is on that time also which supposed to be much tourney than the $1000 wsop ones?

No, but I still want to post in a poll.
Would everyone agree that the easiest thing to do is try and get the same place that was stayed in last year? There seemed to be no complaints about it and at least we know the guy is reputable.
If not here is a site that was posted on the other thread so if anyone spots a resonably priced and a decent place post it up. http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/Las-Vegas-Nevada.html

There is probably a few stumbling blocks that I can see so far.

    1) People arriving/leaving at different times.
It shouldnt be too much of a problem with regards to payment (We can just aggregate groups total days stayed and divide them by the individuals days stayed, this make sense? It does to me but i'm probably not articulating it correctly)

    2) A lot of the people who are interested arent really established members of the forum, ie. no one knows who you are. No disrespect intended but i'm sure people would be more comfortable staying with people who are known to someone within the group, so maybe those who are interested who havent been around the forum too long could just post and say if they play poker in Dublin, what card room, do they know anyone from the forum etc.
I'm not trying to be elitest here or trying to exclude anyone, its just i'm sure people would want to know who they might be living with for a month.

Yeah I agree with all of us. I don't really mind who I stay with. If they're sound enough to pay up well in advance that's good enough for me. I'm also not certain of my dates, mainly because my girlfriend might leave me if I go for a month. I'm probably going for 2-3 weeks and want to be there for the duration of the main event.

I am heading over for a week on the 27th June and staying in New York hotel with friends dependant on how that week goes i will be staying for another week so would be up for the house share.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

not sure Nicky, prob not for a holiday because I hate the place! If I went it would be for 2 weeks business and maybe a weekend away in San Fran at the end. I'd need to be bankrolled for some 5/10 if I was to go on a business trip though, and I doubt that's going to happen!

Once again we should model it on last year, was it eight they had in a house? If not I don't see why we cant just go for a smaller house. I'm sure we could leave one space free when we book it as inevitably there will be someone satting in to the wsop late on who will want to head over.

For those definatelty interested what dates are you looking to head over?

As it stands I think I might be out on my own heading over on the 15th of June.....

Me and a friend of mine are 90% certain we will be doing this. He doesnt really post here but i sent him the link to this thread and he said he will have a look at the houses and see what he thinks. Ill let you know on monday for certain.

I think i attached a picture of myself from vegas last year because i dont have many posts here. You may know who i am, im a semi regular in the fitz and SE but dont really get a chance to play live much any more what with work etc.

Our likely dates are Thursday 3th July - Friday 18th July, something like that anyway.

Im not really sure how the logistics of this are going to work because everyone seems to be arriving/leaving at different times or if theres even enough interest for the house.

That shouldn't be too difficult to work out. I think there's a monthly rate for the house regardless of the number of occupants so we each pay our fair share of that depending on how many days we stay.

this place seems pretty good, it is only $3.5k for a month, seems to be free when we need it(unless they dont update the calender), 6 beds, pool table etc etc.

    Don't give up just yet.

Kobraki and I are definitely interested.

Obviously a lot of boardsies will end up in Vegas and regret not getting into the house so those people need to get the finger out right now!

Shoutman I think it would help if we got some details on where we;d be staying. I would do it but you're staying longer than I am.

I dont mind doing it but if everyone is flying in at the end of June I'm not planning on being in the house on my toblerone for two weeks lol.

The place that pierce hard posted looks nice, no indication on how close to the strip it is but I'll look into it if that place looks alright, otherwise ill get the details of the place they stayed last year off ocallagh and check out prices/availability for that place.

Also if we dont have the numbers I can post on another forum which i'm fairly regular on, a thread like this went up on that forum and got much the same reply, a few definates but nothing concrete enough to go and book it now. The forum is mostly american and continental europeans and as I dont know them I couldn't really vouch for them with regards to them being psychos or not.

2 of my friends stayed in the boards house last year, and they said it was great. Id definately be up for it, im happy to go 2nd week in june, or whenever suits. Could probably bring a few people to make up numbers too if needed. How many people do we need for this?

Got a reply from the guy who hired out the house to the lads last year but he said he has nothing left in june.... if its the case that people are getting there acccomadation sorted now we would want to get a move on or it might be too late. I've sorted out accomadation for myself until around the 25th but still looking for somewhere for the last week of june, (obviously this will change if i qualify for the ME)

id recommend getting somewere near red rock casino. Its a very residential area - and about 20bucks in a taxi fron the strip. But the house requirements your looking for should be easy to get, also red rock is a class casino. Its were alot of the local grinders play (maybe not as much value??) but has a massive bowling alley and cinema screens, bars and everything you would need, yet a break from the strip.

Only let nick stay with you, if he brings the lady who had the clothes thrown all over his apartment :)

Just note the cleaning fee of $150 and $25 per Night pool heating bill, other then that if we had a lot of people staying it would be quality.... I'm guessing we are looking for something a bit more low scale at the minute though.

If you guys find a good house in a decent location now I'd be surprised tbh. I've been looking myself a bit recently and they all seem to be booked out during the WSOP.

I've been offered a place in a house for the whole time i'm in vegas, so unless there is significant movement on this with regards to definate interest i'm going to accept the place.

Apologies to those who were relying on the boards house idea, but if there isn't enough interest at this stage I don't think there is too much we can do.
