Question for casual collectors

hello there, im totally new to the forum, spent the morining reading all the intros so i dont offend the vets :)

but im afriad i couldnt find the answers i wanted so had to make a new thread.

Basically I'm a casual collector, i dont play competitively or anything, i collect airsoft replicas for purerly fasciantion, and the odd use in the backgarden on my little firing range.

But it seems the airsoft scene has taken of ehre recently with stores opening up around the place. But ireland being ireland, the prices are far too high, for competitive players perhaps good, but for casual collectors for me, ridiculous.

Most of my collection has come from europe while ive been away. Some nice pistols etc.

But a recent scavange through ebay has popped up alot of pretty class products i want t oget my hands on. They are all under the regulations so its fine, but most wont post to ireland

Basically i just want to know is there a place i can get pistols, shotguns and rifles for decent prices. To put into perspective

On one of the airsoft sites advertised through the forum, they have a pistol for 130 euro and a rifle for 399

on ebay the same pistol costs 10 euro and the rifle 40 euro

i dont mind about the red tip on it, its collection purposes

is there anywhere in ireland that is actually selling stuff at decent cheap prices? or anywhere know of an american store that ships to ireland?

i think it was hobbytron i was looknig at that had great prices? but didnt say where they shipped too

any help would be greatly appreciated.

And i wish you guys al lthe best with the scene and your stores

and to put into my personal perspective, i have a replica glock that i paid 18 euro for, beretha 22 euro and usp for 25 euro. There the " cock per shot" types but thats fine for me, gas laoded would be nice but not essential.

no doubt ill get links from the irish sites but their prices are not for me, but any other suggestions welcome pleaaase

if it's a North American store, you should know that besides the red-tip they also have no markings due to patent/copyright laws. So for a collector, it's a bit of a crappy deal.

bear in mind as well that unless it's a really dodgy dealer like "MAaaaaaaad" or the Gadget shop who will sell €100 AEG rifles as if they're high-end (as oppsed to premium end) equivalents, chances are the €399 price you're seeing is for a rather good quality piece of kit.

TBH, the prices you've mentioned don't make sense. Perhaps the US quoted prices are for springers? I know you can get stuff in the US cheaper (sometimes), but not that cheap ...

That would be a bad place to buy.

Our stores are very well priced, as most of us import already, they meet the foreign prices pretty much, with added convenience and consumer protection.

Try eirsoft.ie, irish airsoft supplies, airsoft eire, main irish airsoft.

    They are our proper retailers.

Edit: There are big price difference between certain brands, our stores reflect that realistically, based on their quality, some places sell tat for a high end price.
Internals are the real test of quality, what looks like an m4 may well be a POS in reality compared to a similar looking piece by Classic army for example, its very easy to make a crappy lpeg look snazzy in an online picture.

The difference between the pistol and the pistol for 130 is that the pistol for 1o will be be made out of plastic and be spring powered, the one for 130 will be semi automatic, probably full metal and uses gas.

It will be the same with the rifle, the cheaper one will be plastic, spring powered and low quality, the one for 400 will be full metal, high power (1j) and fully automatic.

The difference between a 40 euro gun and a 400 euro gun is huge.

like i said i checked them sites, and 100 euro for a pistol for the use im giving it seems a bit much.

"firing" specs are not important to me. Nor really is the loading method etc. Its just the chasis basically.

like for example the glock i have, its a metal/plastic durable pistol. Loads up the yellow pellets, and after every shot is fired it mused be manually reloaded (cocked)

i know the prices on the irish sites are probably decent for a product that reloads through gas mechanisms etc but not what im after really.

basically, i colelct them, they go into a cabinet, and odd time get a fire :)

its sad you may think, but i have a very high fondness of military, weapons and the revelation of airsoft products has been great for me.

The irish sites ive gone through, bar some that are barred here on the network im on.

but if anyone can get onto hobbytron.com website, youll see rifles, sniper rifles, pistols etc for 5- 20 euro. Thats what im after.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-14-AIRSOFT-Guns-Military-Rifle-Pistol-10K-BBs_W0QQitemZ150227706355QQihZ005QQcategoryZ64635QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

thats a link to what im looking at, now the spec might be illegal but ill find legal ones, but thats the kind of equipment i am after, doesnt have to be great firing, doesnt have to be a great collector item... spring loaded pistol, doesnt bother me

Just cnat find an american site that delivers to ireland

if anyone does, or knows a site that sells this type of equipment, or if even the irish sites might consider these, would be appreciated.

To be honest, most of the lads here are only interested in skirmishable kit for use in the sport.

That cheap stuff isnt even nice enough for a collection, and shipping would likely be 3 times the cost of them.

If thats what you want grand, there is charm to the cheapest stuff, but it is crap, and either a rip off on shipping, or with a large mark up sold at a market.

WGC and the like sell springers don't they? Nowhere in Ireland really sells springers that won't cost too much afaik

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

i figured as much that they wouldnt be available here.

ive a few american friends who do the same thing as me and buy from american sites and the same type of equipment they say is grand for what is being used by.

I'm sure eventually ill divulge into the scene of getting proper equipment for skirmish play, im a bit paintball player, but would much prefer play with replica weapons, more appealing :)

but i think initial entry price is pretty steep for me at the moment, hopefully when the income permits ill get involved.

Thanks for the help anyway, i knew you guys being big players and me asking aobut the "cheapy crappy stuff" was a long shot but figured id ask anyway

    cheers

ill be keeping an eye on this forum anyway seems very interesting, the thread about your kit is particularly interesting and im well jealous :)

im sure alot of saturday nights out have been scarificed, and countless rows with the other halves :)

AFAIK, the Irish retailers cater for the skirmisher who cares a great deal about quality & power output etc. Therefore, these stores only stock mid-high end stuff, which costs more.

What you are looking for is cheap springer pistols/rifles that I honestly would not even consider to be airsoft guns. You will have to go online to buy these, or take a trip over to Spain...they sell springers for next-to-nothing there. These Maaaaaad stores might also sell them, but it's said that they grossly overcharge for them.

As a collector, I would have thought that trademarks and a high quality metal finish would be very important to you. In fact, normally collectors are the ones looking to buy the most realistic, high quality and therefore most expensive stuff.

Edit: you can pick up a decent Airsoft AEG for less than 90 euro on the irish sites (assuming you collect in-store). Decent quality and usuable in skirmishes.

Ok, so you want a nice chassis so to speak. If I hand you a springer and then hand you either my clone m1911 (which is still rather nice) or my KSC USP Compact you will notice a considerable difference in the way they feel even. My clone doesn't have markings on it, so looks a bit bland, whereas my USP Compact has all the markings of the real-deal.

If you want really cheap pieces of plastic that will break easily; sure knock yourself out. But if you ever get your hands on something better, you will notice the difference immediately.

perhaps collector was the wrong term

    im a cheap skate :)

ive had the items you guys use in my hand and without a doubt they are superior and high quality, and a remarkable piece of tools that one day i hope to be able to collect a few.

But a guy in my position cant value up splashing out the doe, just wanted to get my hands on a few cheapy items, i guess the stuff from spain and the maaad stores is what i have to do with now :)

its just a pastime i go into the garden and crack some targets and cans.

like i said eventually hope to invest in some savage kit, and looking more at your guys setups and "families" its entising me to save...alot :)

but in the meantime, no one got suggestions for a cheapo like me :)

although enjoying reading all the threads, new fav forum me thinks :)

did i read a thread that said theres a place near ballyboughal that you can rent gear for 45 euro for the day

sounds interesting live i nswords, play golf in hollywood lakes which is in ballyboughal, thought i could hear guys screaming :P

and apologies i know this forum is for serious players, but didnt know where else to ask

I think a few of the German websites sell cheap (€30-100) springers, not sure how much the shipping would be though.

    e.g. http://www.recon-company.com/Softair-886c.html

hehe looknig at this site, customizing guns to beat the band, just so much fun to do, cost an arm and a leg but its fun what you could make :)

the place in ballyboughal you referred to is hrta, they have a thread on here or you can check out their website at hrta.ie

rsov.com have some pistols you might be interested in, full metal springers for quite cheap (less than £10), but shipping from china will cost a bit, although probably still a little less than shipping from the US, check them out here: http://www.rsov.com/index.php?cPath=105_142_150&page=1&sort=6a

I got two handguns when I lived abroad, a Beretta 92F & H&K P7(i think); both for less than €20; both the same function as you describe. But as someone who is also interested in building a collection these toys are not worthy of any decent collection. Both are very light plastic and poorly built and while they may sort of look like the real thing they are useless for anything other than knocking over cans in the office. Seriously, they should not form part of any serious collection ;)
