Ordered a pistol from ehobby there last week and the tracking is showing it as "ITEM SENT TO CUSTOMS" in Port Laoise. Does this mean its going to be seized?

Doubtful, its just a spot check, appearently they are checking a lot of airsoft guns lately. If its under 1J you shoud be fine, but I dont think there is any time frame in which they have to work with, so you might be waiting a while to get it back.

Its under a Joule yea, do they contact you in cases like this, or do i just wait til it arrives at my door?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭Sevenie

Not sure, other people on here know more about it.

But ifs its Legal then I suspect they'll send it on to you when they are finished playing with it. I suppose it'll say on the tracking?

If it was over 1J you would be contacted and told it was been confiscated I think.

Not very helpful, gear going awol is a stress most of us have had.

Into customs is standard, it will be noted as seized if indeed seized, it should come out soon* (not soon).

I have a package of parts ffs that is in customs a week, they are backlogged.

100% normal. Slows things down, but it's normal. Just pray that they repackage the AEG in a half decent manner. My last package that went through customs ended up in 99% packing tape and 1% soggy cardboard box.

I would'nt worry about as long as it's under 1 joule. Had the same worry myself last week.

My MP5 had that status for a week and a half but was released yesterday, I think they are just backed up. Only other thing about a package going into customs is that they'll charge you for the pleasure of having it examined.

I've similar situation with Camera I bought on eBay as a XMAS gift but it went to customs and left customs (I think same day). There is nothing you can do about that. If it take to long give them a call and ask about your package.

Btw I think that money they charge you is for that tape they going to use.

if it was sent to customs it doesnt necessarily mean it will be tested, quite often its just for duty/vat to be added

An attitude like that will earn you a ban around here pretty quick

sent to customs can mean a number of things, most of the time its for customs charges to be applied or there unhappy with the customs declaration and want you to send in a bill, normal if it has been taken for testing it will change to some other description like 'held by 3rd part' or something like that

If that appears you'd better settle down for a long wait. That means its been sent to the park (garda HQ) for the Technical Bureau to check it out. I waited 4 months. Airsoft isn't their top priority with all the shootings going on:rolleyes:

Thats unlikely to happen tjough so don't worry.

yes more than likely its just a customs charge or bill send in or simple customs have not processed it yet

Not always. Somethimes they just send package to customs and no charges applys. You got your package 2 days after. I wouldn't have such a dark thoughts.

That's strange, a friend of mine purchased a MP001 which pumps em out at 1.5 J which wasn't opened, searched or seized.
Don't worry, he had, prior to purchasing, acquired a license for it...but Customs didn't know that...did they?

your comment are a bit strange in the context of the thread, first can not see how you would have got a license for an aeg they have no serial number for starters so i do no under stand this comment, but its not about what customs know, if they had a list of all th aegs produced that where over 1j they would have to open all the parcels to correctly identify them taking far l to much time and recourse at the moment they conduct random testing, but its has nothing to do with 'what customs know' you might be surprised how much they do know :) , anyway your comment imply you knowing imported a >1j aeg into Ireland so i can see a looked thread coming.

A single shot springer can have a licence afaik, they may require some marking on it, or just take some generic number off it.

So your friend purchased an air rifle? That has nothing to do with the airsoft forum.

Also he's lying there. You cannot get a firearms license for anything under 1.7J

Not meaning to be blunt or anything here, but "so?"

12-14j is > than 1.7j, and all of this is utterly academic anyway since 1.7J is > 1j which = NO in terms of airsoft in this country.

I know, I know no discusion for anything that have more than 1j on airsoft forum please accept my deepest apologies:) I meant: In legal terms Garda will not give firearm license even for Paintball Marker.

They will actually. It's just a great deal of hassle and very much dependant on the judgement (or lack?) of the local superindendent. Paintball markers need fire-arms licenses to own and use.

Like u said: dependant. Most cases they avoid giving license. They rather issue letter of permition instead.

Complain & take them to the small claims court for emotional distress and 'wear & tear' caused to the AEG. Cheeky gits!
