info on gym/pool - for graduate

Hi I'm a TCD graduate - 5 years out now! Anyway, I was a regular user of the gym in college and the year after I graduated I was working in the city so I joined as a graduate. This was in the old, cr*ppy gym - but it was mega cheap!

I'm going to be working in the city again and I was happy to discover that the graduate rates for the new sports centre are still quite reasonable.

So my question - are the gym and pool very busy from 4.30-5.30 in the evening? I think that would be the deal-breaker for me - if I had to queue for the treadmill for example.

Any other comments or advice also welcome! Thanks!

They tend to start getting busy around that time

You'd be right on the edge of the busy time then, probably 1730-1900 is the busiest time. But that said, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a treadmill, and there is always some other piece of equipment available. Not too sure about the pool, just know it's fairly busy around that time too.

what's the deal with the lockers in the gym? Are they all taken at this stage? Or are there no permanent lockers?

The lockers are not for overnight use. Not too sure how well enforced this is, but in general most of the lockers are free and there's never a problem finding an empty one.

You can only use the "offical" tcd lock as well. You get one when you sign up. I lost mine a couple of weeks ago and had to pay €10 for a new one

Not true, you can use any lock you like. They do sell combination locks which fit the lockers perfectly for €10. Other locks with smaller bars might not actually lock the locker properly.

They wanted to charge me a tenner for a padlock last summer, I refused their kind offer and went down to Capel St and bought one for four quid with long enough bars that fitted nicely. Only thing is it has a key rather than a combo lock so after several months swimming with a key in my pocket its getting a bit rusty.....
nothing a splash of WD-40 wont fix though
