Gparted - bad sector.

i am trying to resize an NTFS partition on my laptop so i can dual boot with XP & Ubuntu. Gparted reports a bad sector on hard disk. i have run chkdsk a few times on XP and it seems fine, reports no errors but i ge tthe same result each time from Gparted & Qtparted. anyone seen this before?

Have you defragmented the partition? How much free space is there?

defragmented the drive a few times, it's a 80gig drive, 75% free space.

Backup your data time so.

backup then run badblocks to see.

backup first as badblocks will put the drive under pressure and if its failing its anyone guess what could happen/not happen.

chkdsk /r
? chkdsk without one of the switches doesn't do much.

Note that the PC won't be usable (it runs while windows is starting) while this command is running so better to leave it running overnight.
