Would be good news if it was the case. No idea myself

I'm with richardsheil on this one. Good riddance. I've got one in my driveway that has gone from being a working car to a write off due to one of the ridiculous number of common expensive failures that were engineered into the Vectra over the years.

Nothing wrong with my 1994 Vectra, she'll hit the 1/4 million miles this week:D
And I have abused it so much, towed a Triumph 2000 on a trailer from Dublin to Galway, 45 mph top speed, above that the trailer was doing the driving;)
and it'll self bleed when you let it run out of diesel....
The 96 on model was sh1te though.

Agree totally. A truely awful car with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I hope it is true, these cars are bland and dated. In 1996 the 1.9 diesel is the most gutless motor that I had ever driven in. TBH these cars couldn't burst their way out of a wet paper bag! Good riddence to them.

When they got rid of the Ascona I thought there would be an improvement! What are they replacing the Vectra with?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

    Bring back the RWD Ascona!

I don't think the Vectra was as bad as everyone makes it out to be. There is certainly worse cars out there in the same class, but I do agree, it is a fairly bland car to drive.

(Why is this in the classic car section?)

vectras being replaced with an all new platform !!

    called the insignia

i had a few vectras & the only one i dident like is the 05 to now model in its 1.6 form:(
but the rest were great cars & never let me down :)
have a look around & theirs a lot of them about, so they must be liked by someone !!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Vectra is too connected to the conservative current design. The new model will be sleek and more like a coupé to look at, but of course it will still be a family car." opel first used the Insignia name on a concept car seen three years ago.

The sporty looking four-door family saloon was designed by Martin Smith. He has since moved to Ford and penned the highly acclaimed new Mon*deo. GM is now keen to follow suit by making its cars more adventurous to look at. Forster added: "Design is vital. It's going to be the number one reason to buy our cars."

A pre-production version of the Insignia is expected to make its public debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The production-ready model will be on display at the Paris expo later that year, and is due to go on sale in the UK &
    ireland early in 2009.

Not bad, the dash is ever so slightly mondeo like though, and the side profile has a hint of BMW 3 series about it....still, the name change can only be a good thing.

It might be best if this is just moved into Motors where more people can give the Vectra a parting kick.

The Vectra wasnt that bad.The 1988-96 model has the best mechanics but is no longer pleasing to the eye(according to some),The 2005 model is nicest to look at but has sh** mechanics. It's sort of like a catch 22.

Does anyone know how I can move this to motors.
