Gadgets & tips for more comfortable flight

I am looking into getting a pair of noise cancelling earphones to use on long haul flights for getting sleep and listening to music or audiobooks without blasting it out at full volume. Do these earphones work (without costing the same as the flight!)?

Any other gadgets or tips to make life more bearable 45,000 ft over some ocean at half four in the morning?

Forget noise cancelling and look at getting a set of Shure in ear monitors (IEMs). Rather than producing noise to counter the existing background
noise, IEMS effectively sit in your ear and seal out outside noise.

Search this forum here on Boards for Shure info.

Depending on where you're flying to they might be cheaper to pick up over there ;) (especially true if can buy Shure IEMs in the US).

As for entertainment on long-haul I always make sure I have a paperback or
two along with my Zune or Zen with a couple of movies and TV shows
as well as some music. There's always the DS lite in the bag for boredom
    emergencies.

A sleeping mask. You can pick one up for about 10 euro in any airport, and it will make the flight go quicker than any amount of ipods, psps, noise-cancelling earphones, books or laptops would.

    A good book.
    Plenty of water.
    Eyemask.
    A good set of earplugs.

+1. I've had both. Sony noise-cancelling, and Shure noise-isolating. The Shure ones are waaay better, although they get be uncomfortable on long-hauls. They really are jammed in your ear.

TV in the head rest infront.

Go on night flights if possible as half the plane does be asleep.

If you can prebook go for a seat where there is nobody behind you.

One of those neck cushions ( the soft kind, not the inflatable) a games console and New Scientist magazine. Also the cucumber flavoured wipes from boots are very refreshing.

oh yeah, there's a spray you can get for your nose, i can't remember what it's called - dry sinus relief or something - it's great. Also, if you smoke, two solpadine in a big bottle of water sipped slowly really takes the edge off the cravings.

    Nicorette patches ;)

Now if only I could find something similar to stave off my espresso cravings
    whilst mid-Atlantic.

Depends on the aircraft there but yep, always nice to have your own. I normally watch the plane progress (with speed, distance etc) across the little map. I know I'm boring. :)

Regardless of airline I always pack my own entertainment, what if you've
seen all the movies they're showing already? Plus if it's a movie I really
want to see I'd rather see the full version than a family-friendly version edited for airplane viewing.

    MP3 player
    Neck support
    Good Book
Nicotine Inhaler (Nicorette thingy, looks like a tube, you stick cartridges of nicotine in and suck away :D)
    J Class helps

I never set foot on a long haul flight without my psp with my 4gb card i put lots of music and videos on it. Extra battery also. I would recommed you get some sort of over the counter sleeping pill for any night flights helps me get a good night sleep.
