What do you want to do in the arcade? They're pretty much dead.

There's Barnies on North Earl St...

Just fun multiplayer games. Retro or new. As long as they're fun. And also some pool tables and air hockey. Basically a good arcade/leisureplex in the city.

Really wanted to go bowling and the cinema. But the UCI's beside the leisureplex's in Dublin aren't showing Lars and the Real Girl yet.

So looking for a city center alternative that is relatively safe. Always have an uneasy feelin' when I'm in Quirkeys or the arcade in cineworld.

The only real alternative I can think of in the city is Barnies, but I don't think there is a single arcade in the city centre where you wont get that uneasy feeling... they all tend to be rough.

Yea it is a bit of a put off. I don't really like to go into most arcades unless I'm with a few mates. But it's just me and the missus tonight. I'll google barnies. Cheers.

You could try The Atari Expo in Tallaght. It's near the cinema, full of knackers and has no retro games at all.

If you would like to play retro games, try Bobs Casino out in Skerries, if its still open. The last time I was there was last summer (I think?) and it was still open. No bowling, cinema or knackers here I'm afraid. There is is pool though.

Quirkeys, i feel, is falling to the same fate as most arcades have in the past. It is slowly turning into a gambling (slot machine) shop.

I used to go out to Bray a lot when I was younger, it had a load of arcades. I haven't been there for a few years, maybe someone here could tell you whats there now?

The arcades are dying I'm afraid, and they have been for some time. It would be a good idea to share any knowledge on whats left out there.

Maybe we could start a little "Arcade Directory" here on the Arcade & Retro Board. It could give some info on different arcades around the country.

    e.g.
Address: Quirkeys, O'Connel Street, Dublin 1
        Cliental: Knackers
Games: Mostly slots, some new, some old, simulators, pinball (or give a complete list of game names)
            Rating: 3/10

It might be worth a STICKY??????

Good idea. That's what I was searchin' the net for before I posted here. I especially like the clientele part heh :)

Ok lads, I'm currently working the nightshift for the next few weeks, so I will not be able to visit any of these places for a while, I will get around to it. Any help or information on the following arcades would be appreciated and would further help in trying to get this list as a Sticky. Please try to supply as much info as you think is necessary about an arcade that you are submitting.

                    Thank you, (in advance)

                    Hi,

I'm looking to find out what happend to all the old Arcade Cabinets from the Hay days of going into an Arcade to play video games.

I'm in a position now to buy a couple of cabinets and I'm finding it very difficult to source anything in Ireland.

                    Units I'm after.

Table Top Space Invaders - Original.
Out Run - Seated of stand Up Version
                    Street Fighter 2

Looking at setting up a games room for my son so any help much appreciated,

Sadly, the majority of those machines were more than likely destroyed. Getting your hands on one now is really a matter of detective work mixed with some luck. I got my own one on ebay.

There's a user on here called Mitchomagic who has a few for sale.

There's also these guys who are just getting started up -

                    http://arcademachines.ie/

They had some generic cabinets for sale on ebay for 100 euro each. You could very easily turn one of them into any machine you want.

Very difficult to get hold of one. A lot of them where converted into pokies which is a real shame, even worse some ended up in skips. I'm in the US at the moment and the number of arcades here is pretty incredible.
I've seen original SFII, MK2, KI cabs. Creature from the Black Lagoon , Star Trek TNG and Twillight Zone pinball machines in perfect condition. People are still pumping coins into them here!
Mitch will no doubt have cabs he's doing up for sale so send him a PM maybe. I've gotten one from him myself. You can order cab art and Marquees from the net and do up a generic cab. To be fair thats what a lot of arcades did anyway! Take to least popular machine and use a kit on it:)

Isn't that now the Xbox Live Gaming Centre? I think so.

There are lots of them over here in the UK, but isn't there one in Salthill, County Galway too? I lived in Galway last summer before moving to the UK and I recall a large arcade there by the promenade.

yeah , theres still a few machines upstairs (a few big driving cabs mainly).
the other arcade across the road from it though is just slotmachines and poker now sadly.

I'm gonna be in Dublin for a few days next week, what's the best arcade for music games? (Pump It Up, DJ Max Technika, etc.)
Don't count DDR, since I assume that will be in every one one them! :P

Do any of them have either Deathsmiles or BlazBlue CS in them, by any chance? Even a T6 cab with a card slot would do.

Honestly, I dont know a thing about Dance games. Dr. Quirkys on O'Connell street would be worth checking for that.

As for the others, there's no way. Things like that really aren't catered for over here :(:(:(

Checked out Quirkey's (found it by accident, actually!) and er... Yeah I won't be bothering with there in future. DDRX is the unloved ginger kid of the series, 2 cabs of it is too much!
