Not only that there's 3,700 euro for 3rd place and 1,480 euro for 4th place.

I'm contemplating heading over the running in the race myself.

Just as well Yarmouth was called off today, there was only 1 runner declared for the 5.10, mind you thats down to different reasons.

Complete joke, good prizemoney and there are 2 runners. next time you hear owners whinging about prize money hold this race up as an example

your comment is a complete joke , you know nothing about the conditions that led to there being only 2 runners and it has bo llox all to do with the owners ,

Hey Knighted, as a matter of interest, do you know who the other entries for the race were. There were 19 originally in which is grand number at five day stage and obviously 17 dropped out for various reasons. It would be interesting to see where they have been routed to. Obviously some would have potentially had some physical problems from the five day stage and the drying ground may have put more off. But I agree with you that to blame owners is a mistake. Owners put the entried firmly in the hands of trainers and it is trainers who should spot opportunities but in fairness, at the five day stage it didn't look like there was any opportunity.

what happened was there was 19 entered but some were engaged over the last few days and others are waiting for punchestown(just in for a look) i think three were just back from cheltenham so too soon -and being a bank holiday (on rte ) there was no contact with the yards to say how many had declared so only three did and 1 came out so it was a combination of factors that lead to the two runners -

makes me mad when you hear ill informed comments that it has something to do with the owners and moaning bout prizemoney -
show me an owner that enters there own horse? they can in theory but one of the first things you are asked to sign when you register with hri is an authority to act for the trainer to enter and declare from your account

any way cantoris ,nice to meet you in cheltenham last week ,your not as ugly in real life as your photo on ur website ,u should change that :p

good time ? when i left you were cosying up to a slender filly trying to go 3 mile
but i was fairly banjoed at that hour so memory might be hazy

last time I checked ther were 19 original entries and there are far more than 19 horses in the country who'd be of the required standard to run in a race like this. This is one of the showcase days for Irish racing and if anything is gonna scare sponsors away from racing its 2 runner fields in 29k races. If I had a moderate animal why not enter him and let him school around for 3rd prize money? You OFTEN hear owners/trainers etc in both England and Ireland complain about prizemoney and lack of decent opportunities to run their horses yet here's a grade 3 that ended up with 2 runners.

How is that ill informed? I didn't say that the situation arose as a protest or otherwise about prizemoney (as was the case in Yarmouth in England). I said its a bit rich to complain about prizemoney and lack of opportunities when a situation like this arises

Look at it another way, if you trained my moderate horse, say rated 80-100, at a cost of about €250 (another €250 to declare overnight) and 19 others were declared and eight of these showed up, all of which were 30lbs ahead of our moderate mare, I would be asking you a question. There are not many races that cut up like this so you can take out the "enter the moderate mare to pick up some black type". Owners compain about the amount of entry fees they pay and now you are advocating wasting money on a heap of these graded races in the hope that a two runner race shows up. Mad.

So here were the original entries

    Jazz Messanger
    Nicanor
    Catch Me
    Cooldine
    Earth Magic
    Aranleigh
    Garryowen Star
    Deutschland
    Majestic Concorde
    Silver Jaro
    Alexander Taipan
    Ballytrim
    Mirpour
    Sher Beau
    Boulavogue
    Shakervilz
    Moskova
    Handful of euros

    Just one of those things

point taken (a very fair point) but I stand by my point about scaring off sponsors. Betchronicle are new enough to major sponsorship and seem to be backing a good few decent races here and even sponsored a handicap chase Pillar day in Januray at cheltenham. This country could well be heading for a recession when owners willing to set fire to their cash (i.e. own NH horses) or sponsors falling over each other to throw money at HRI may well be a thing of the past. This typr of situation is NOT what you want to see.

As a matter of interest is Moskova running later this week? Looking at the original entries she would have been out of her depth but in the event of a small field (and a lot of the original entries were entered elsewhere this week) is exactly the type of mare I'd aim at a race like this if I owned her.

I'd be surprised if Paul Nolan missed this trick with Moskova so might be something wrong with her. apparently if you are declaring horses you can see the entries up to 10am on the screen. So enter at 9.57 if you see something like this happening.

As for the sponsorship, if this puts Chronicle off spnsorship they are too sensitive. Most bookies sponsor handicaps and Victor Chandler complained about his race this year when they changed it to a conditions race. Chronicle will be happy with the press coverage they got out of it and while I see their point from a cost benefit, this situation wont happen often and it's just luck of the draw. They know when they are sponsoring a conditions race that it could end up being a small field so not much sympathy here. Ultimately, it is how they get on at the track and how their customers appreicate the day out that really gets sponsors back. So the level of service by the track is really important for sponsors. The bigger races are obviously also about getting your product out there e.g. Powers, Vodafone Derby, budweiser etc etc.

The guys on RTE gave me a good laugh commentating on the race anyways, when they were saying earth magic, followed by kaledron.......and the ambulance is in third :)
Regrettable situation but doesn't happen too often.

Aside from this race, Ted was in rare form today for the whole program. He had a good auld rant about the horse that kicked someone in the ring and talked up Conor O'Dwyer as some sort of super stud in his early days.

The day Ted stops doing TV work will be a sad day.

Yeah, Ted was comedy gold today, going off on one about the horse kicking someone. "He came back and kicked him, a horse like that is bad to the core" or something to that effect.
