This set looks interesting. Apparently it was made by David Gillanders. Never heard about him, but it'd be worth to check his work...

And that reminds me - if I would like to go across the Irish sea (by ferry or plane) for a weekend, what place would you recommend me to visit?

Isle of Skye is brilliant to visit. Stunning landscapes, waterfalls, wildlife etc. Well worth a visit.

The images remind me, and I would say are definitely influenced by Eugene Richards work, especially "The Knife and Gun Club" book.

When are you thinking of heading over?

I have to say, I really liked the look of Glasgow.

Though I'm not so sure on how close to that action I'd like to get :p

Loved those pics! Some were great, loved the one of the guy whpse throat had been cut, because you don't notice it at first, I thought "well some of the others were in way worse shape, this guy isn't even bleeding, just a cut ear/nose" but then I saw the scar on his throat, madness.

Very interesting set. I've always wanted to go to Scotland for a weekend or so just for photography and nothing else.

I'd like to think that isn't a balanced representation of a weekend in the city... pretty amazing set, though.

If you go by ferry the drive up the coast from stranraer is nice. It depends what you want to see though. Glasgow has gorgeous architecture, it's a bit gotham-like, lots of blonde and red sandstone buildings. The west end with glasgow uni is gorgeous, it's set in the middle of kelvingrove park. If you want to get out of the city, you can go up the side of loch lomond, or stirling is also beautiful - it has a castle, and sits at the foot of the ochil hills. The wallace monument is worth a visit, excellent views. Doune castle is near stirling - where they filmed the holy grail (monty python), and there's castle campbell just up the road too.

I'm off to Glasgow for a weekend in June myself so hopefully get to take some nice shots. Although it's a birthday weekend, so hopefully.

Thanks, Elven. I was thinking about one extended weekend next month. If there is some cultural event, that could help choosing the correct date. Or food festival :-)

If I go by car, I would have only one place for passenger.

It would be interesting to see if anyone would be up for a trip over. Sort out a few cars etc and accommodation.

I've never been to Scotland so can't really comment but another idea would be Wales. It's very easy to get to via Rosslare. The scenery over there is absolutely stunning and there are some great relics over there dating from the old castles when England invaded it to the huge abandoned quarries of it's industrial past.It really is an overlooked country so close to home.
