    HI,

I want to import a box of plastic game accessories from China and resell them.

Worth will be about 100euro plus shipping = 170euro.
I have searched the Revenue website but cannot find anything about the possible duty on these particular items.

How is this duty worked out - will it charged at all on such a small value ?
    Any help would be grateful,

    cheers

    K

ps -just read sticky - please comment if any extra info.

What I think 9" is asking - is what import duty is on plastic game accessories.

Question - why do they take in the postage into the calculation ?

    http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/cgi-bin/tarchap?Taric=9503000000&Download=0&Periodic=0&ProdLine=80&Lang=EN&SimDate=20080325&Country=

It can range from 0% to 6% depending on the precise description of the item. PM me with the exact item description and I can give you a definitive tarriff code.

I've often found that the duty they charge is anything and completely random with no associations to the official list posted above. I've even had DVDs that had no duty applied, just the 21% VAT. Seems the customs inspectors are often lazy and charge a nice simple amount. I'd budget for 10% customs, then 21% VAT to be safe, and remember that these are also charged on the postage costs too.

Will they bother with something valued at 170 euro? Most likely yes. Anything over about 45 euro (25 officially if it's not a gift, but I've always found you're usually safe up to about 45 euro) is fair game.

To have the correct rate charged, you nust have the tariff code printed on the invoice, otherwise it is put under general classification and you can be charged up to 14%.

The onus is on the sender / recipient to have this information correct and not customs officials / courier company.
