As a graduate civil engineer is it possible to work in Australia with no experience?
Is it easy to find graduate jobs in Australia?

There is a shortage in Civil engineering positions in Australia at the moment. The position is on their high demand list so they are keen for people to go over. I went to the down under expo in RDS in may and they were searching for engineers to go over.

What kind of packages were the offering to go over?

What was the money they were offering?

Any good sites/people to contact about going over?

I can't offer figures or links but a mate of mine who had 0 engineering experience was offered an incredible amount for being a recent (2006) graduate while he was in Australia.

I've been half thinking of moving away for a while. Would prefer America/Canada than Oz. Have worked in America so I reckon I might give that another bash

4 years away is a long way away. I wouldnt plan that far ahead. Look whats happening in the Irish construction industry. Alot can change in 4 years

Well, in so much as no industry is ever 100% reliable. No job is for life (possible exception is civil service!).

What do you mean a settled life? Is it have 1 job for life? cause those days are gone buddy! its far more exciting now!

There will be a demand in four years time. A number of massive long term projects have recently been announced in almost all the big cities.

WA has been on a boom for the last 5 or 6 years and despite a recent slow down there is still a massive amount of work out there.

NSW was deemed dead in recent times but has started to recover and will continue to do so.

QLD and SA are also starting to prosper a lot more than recent years.

Tbh the next 5 years or so should be excellent over here for anyone skilled in the engineering/construction injuries.

If anyone has any questions about companies, projects etc then let me know. I work as a journalist for mining/construction magazines and websites so have a decent amount of knowledge on the industry over here.
