    Yippee !
I arrived for my current assignment in early February and it was 101 Krona to the Euro, now its 124. Last year I was getting an average of 79. It makes the local beer less than 5 euro a pint… an all time low.
    Come here now, its great

For a detailed post re routes see my earlier post here on boards

For a Reykjavik city break a few days would do it, say 3 to 5. The city is very small, so a ‘city break’ would have to take in about 100km radius of the main sights as well. If you only want to see Reykjavik, the 48 hours is enough, but the countryside is the best bit, so don’t miss it.

I worked with a bloke from Iceland for a while, he had red hair.

He took great pleasure in telling me his hair colour came about as a result of a raid his ancestors carried out on Ireland, carrying off our women folk.

Anyone who feels like exacting retribution... :D

Don’t know where you got that one from, but its way off. This morning the exchange rate is 1 Euro = 122 ISK, which is worse (from our perspective) of 124 last week, but much better than 75-80 last year.

Hotels are a bit expensive, but only a little more so that Guesthouses (in my experience). From July 1 to end September, the prices go way up. Eg. My car hire deal doubles in price. A friend of mine stayed here last week and it cost him about Eur 58 for a single room. It’s a good hotel in a very central location.
As for food, it depends on where you go. Last night we got Pizza take away for 4 people and it cost ISK3,200 which is about Eur26 from Pizza Pronto in downtown Reykjavik, an average takeaway place. A reasonable tourist meal (2 course) will cost you about Eur30 pp not including drink. Good restaurants (read 'high' quality posh) are average of Eur 30 - 40 for main course alone. Beer is about 600ISK (Eur 4.88) a pint in most places. Clubs tend not to charge much more than pubs, unlike Ireland.

I prefer winter (Jan – Mar) when the snow is here, but mid-May to Mid-September is good tourist season. Some mountain (interior) roads only open July 1, but prices shoot up on July 1, so best to avoid heavy tourist season IMHO.
There is lots of websites to get info on. Start with this one http://www.icetourist.is/

I was in Iceland in December for some work last year. It was ridiculously expensive I thought. I remember two mohito's were 36 euros in the bar called Apotek. Similar price in another place called Salon. Although we got invited to the vodafone christmas party and got free drink aswell.

It was 110 euros taxi from airport to our hotel which is quite pricy. One of the dear taxi's I've claimed back from the company. We did a tour on the weekend to see the usual spots, cost about 70 euros, worth every penny.

Food seemed reasonable in some places and then way over price in others.
