    Hi Guys,

I am living abroad at the moment working in I.T (Java dev, support and testing). I will have about 3 years exp when I plan to return home. I am just wondering what the current state of the Irish I.T industry is like at the moment. I am reading a lot about the downturn in the Irish enconmeny so I am wondering if this having much affect. I have a uni degree and a number of industry certs. Should I have much trouble finding work?

Easiest way to check that is

Dont think its that difficult to get a Java job at the moment if your good and have experience. As time goes on I also think its going to get even easier to get IT jobs as their are less graduates coming through comp science courses these days. That is because 4 to 5 years ago is when the IT industry was getting the worst press over the dot com bubble bursting so not many students were willing to go in t the industry.

Only problem is if their arent enough people in the industry in a few years then companys will move elsewhere.

Thanks cronos I am always suspect about job websites tho, I feel that not all jobs displayed are real. Is there anyone that has recently changed jobs in I.T and how did they find it?

I agree with you that the numbers of grads is decreasing. In my Uni there was 125 students in the year above me, in my year there was 85, the following year 40, I now belive that they have merged the Comp Sci course into a science module. Not sure if that the numbers of grads dropping is a good or bad thing!!

I changed jobs before Christmas and was offered a job before I left the second interview. I am an Oracle DBA/developer and I was in the fortunate position of having plenty of choice. So yes, I found the jobs on websites to be real.

I don't know what the story is with Java developers is, or what the demand is like.

Edit: perhaps the programming forum would be a better place for this?

The IT industry is still booming, i don't think you would have any problem securing a job. I know a few recruiters, pm me if you like and i can send you their contact details

I get your point but if its a company that is advertising and not a recruitment agency then I think you should be ok. Also once you have the company name you can always check the careers section of the company's website to verify if the job is real.
