Where is the Connacht sports ground? Looking at google maps seems to offer up two stadia claiming to be the "Sportsground" - one in Salthill and one near College Road... Which is the one that next week's match will be?

Also do you think tickets will be available at the door or should I buy them online first?

as it is munster, buy them online. connacht rarely sell out, but if they do its munster, leinster or south africa are the opposition.

I... er... lost my student ID... do you think they'll check?

(No I'm not trying to scrounge the €5 discount, but only tickets left are students & kids! And I don't think they'll believe I'm a school kid!)

Might be able to get 2 tickets... Do you think they'd let me lift a youngfella (4 year old) "over the turnstyle"??

I'd certainly try it - the last time the big gate was open and they were only looking at tickets so I'd say it's a possibility.

Anyone know if there are any pubs showing this in Dublin city? Really want to see it but it's on Setanta 1, not Setanta Ireland so I can't watch it at home :(

Lets get serious here - who will win and by how much? Bonus point tonight for Munster?

    Mike.

Hrmm - not sure if i'd say bonus point - connacht generally put up a decent battle in the sportsground and while they won't win, i'd say it'll be a two-three try win for munster, not four.

27-6 to Munster sure, lets give it a bash :P

    Leamy at inside centre, interesting

Why in the name of God isn't Ronan playing in the centre instead of Leamy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Because RoG will be playing at 10 next week.

Tipoki has possibly injury concerns, so I guess Leamy could be a viable solution if the worst comes to the worst for the big HC game.

Jebus they left that a bit late, I had them on -7, wipes sweat away.

so what's the story with Tipoki for Gloucester?
Leamy was anonymous this evening at centre.

I'd say leamy was played there with the intention of developing him more as a ball carrying forward, and it very nearly backfired against a very strong willed connacht team.

The connacht defense played a very, VERY different game than i've seen either leinster or munster play in the last while and it was great to see. It's a dangerous game to play standing off from mauls like that but when done properly it can pay great dividends, as well as some great defense out of broken play. I think a lot of kudos is deserved for some of that defensive line - fair play.

I bet Marcus Horan was well jealous that Leamy got to play centre and he didn't. Could they not have put anyone else there instead of Leamy? What about Keith Earls?

Was at the game, didn't know what was going on when thay announced Leamy at 12. He didn't do much in attack to be honest, but made some good tackles. Thought Stringer was very lively tonight, back to his best form. Mafi also showed up well at times, but the Munster pack wasn't too impressive, even when the big guns came on.
Thought Connacht were unlucky in the 2nd half, 2/3 penalties close to the line, there probably should have been a yellow card. When they took the last 5m lineout the jumper was tackled in the air and no penalty - WTF? Of course Munster got the turnover and the chance was gone... Should at least have got a bonus point from the game...
Game spoiled for a lot of people around us in the stand by 2 boorish Munster fans who roared abuse at the referee for everything, they wanted a yellow card for Connacht for one instance of killing the ball, but when a guy said the same for the incident I described earlier (twice in a row, close to the line) they gave him some abuse. I don't mind a bit of banter, but language like that when there's loads of kids around is pretty poor behaviour. And these were middle aged men! Pity, cos I know the majority of Munster fans are genuine rugby fans, but a lot of people there last night went away thinking somewhat less of Munster because of those 2 idiots...

The referee was woeful for both teams either way - Munster repeatedly infringing on the lineout in their own 22, and at the same time missing connachts off the ball tackle on Mafi i think it was, which would have been a fairly sure try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,848 ✭✭✭bleg

aye ref was poor, ref missed the check on mafi and in the next phase gave a penalty to connacht which set up their best attacking opportunity

If this was during the 2nd half you could be referring to me and my mate but you're certainly not telling it as it was - we called for a YC for the Connaught No6 when he laid on the ball, later when Munster pulled down the maul and the lineout a Connacht supporter looked for a YC for a Munster player, he then turned to us and said I'm only doing as ye did (or something similar) and I said thats what I'd expect from a fan but you hardly want me to assist you is looking for a Munster player to be carded. There was certainly no bad or strong language used.
BTW - we had a lot of banter with the Connacht Supporters behind me.

His ball-carrying is decent enough though, but his hands are fairly poor and I can't see how they would improve from him being thrown in to play centre.

Earls, as a good prospect who is actually a centre, or Ronan who has played there for Leinster A, was fantastic the week before and has good hands should have started. Especially if there is a worry about Tipoki for next week, because there is no way Leamy can play there in a HC QF.

Kidney probably wanted to give Leamy some game time with the Munster team - he hasn't played with them since before 6Ns and is coming back from injury. He will probably be on the bench next week to cover for Foley & Quinlan, who is in great form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,848 ✭✭✭bleg

yea, quinlan would be there on merit anyway even if leamy didn't get injured during the 6n

Must not be you, these guys were at the back of the stand with no one behind them. Was just past the half way line. And they certainly used some bad language. Plus any time someone said anything to them they just shouted them down, certainly didn't engage in any "banter"
In fairness re yellow cards, if the ref was going to give any there was more call for giving one to Munster for that episode - 2 penalties very close to the line, as against one near the 22 for the Connacht no. 6.
Munster just about deserved the win alright, but it really should have been a lot closer on the scoreboard. Hope ye can up the game considerably for next week, we'll be rooting for ye then!
