I have been on the pill a few years now and i am abit sick of taken it. I was looking into the implant that you get inserted into your arm. I was wondering does any body out there have it/had it and did they find it any good thanks :p

    Hi Lizard Queen

I have the implanon is for five years,am on my second implant

Its good in the sense of the protection it gives you, and you dont have to worry about it,

the downside with it for me is i get mood swings ALOT, have gained weight about half a stone, and its awkward to get it in but its quite painful to get it removed, i needed 2 stitches in my arm when i got it out,as it can be tricky to find the bar and i have also heard of people having to go to hospital to get it removed as the bar had become imbedded. My periods are still haywire after nearly 5 years of having it in. have had a period for up to 3 weeks at a time and then they returned a week later.Have had to go to the doctors to get pills for this.

Also my period pains are worse then i ever had before i had the implanon in, but in saying that i have often gone two months without a period.

each person is different and their body reacts differently,

The reason i got it put back in again after the first 3 years was because the doctor advised me my cycle would return to normal and the period pains would ease if i got the second implanon in again, none of this is true so far after nearly 2 years of the second implant in place. When i do get it removed next year will definetly change contraception.

But best of luck with it if you decide to go ahead with it, as i said everybody is different

    Hi!

I've had the implant nearly 3 years now.... ive had opposite effects as the other poster which proves that its different for every person...

Since starting the implant, i've lost a stone, and if anything become more chilled out. I get a period once every 3 months which is nice to not have to worry about every month.

The one thing im dreading, and would probably see as a downside is getting it removed. My 3 years is approaching and ill have get it taken out and ive been researching it on the net and there are not many good reviews. Everyone recommends getting it done by a doctor that has experience in removing it. The fact that its a new contraception means that not many doctors have experience in the removal of it.

Cost wise its a large payment upfront but if you split the cost over the 3 years it works out alot cheaper than the pill.

Also, i was crap at remembering my pill so this works a treat and if you get sick, diorroeha or take antibiotics they dont effect it!!!

good luck, any questions give me a pm
