I have heard this time and time again. Should one only put their best photos online ?

I know the reasons why but to me that excludes other photos which while they arne't the best have a usefullness.

ie some happy snaps mightnt be great photos but they are useful for me to have online so i can link them to relatives etc..

It's all very confusing as anything i hear/read seems to be implying as if you want to be presenting a portfolio which is not what something like flicr or pixie is for..

I have public photos that display "good" photos or photos that I want to utilise on webpages.

My important photos I make private and share them out to the people that I want to share with.

(Pix.ie has that option of turning photos private by the way).

Most of the time, I only post the best of my photos.
Saying that, I only edit the best of my photos, so I post the best of the best. :D

I upload only the photos that I like, but that doesn't mean that they are always good.

hey, it's your stream, do what you like with it.

Some people see their flickr account as a portfolio of sorts, and don't want to 'dilute' the quality by posting stuff that they don't think represents them well as a photographer, like holiday snaps. Other people see it as simply a place to store photos online and don't care what people think of the diversity of their stuff. You can, as said above, make stuff private and send guest passes to family and friends to view it or the other way around - you can put what you like in your stream and just set up a set or collection of what you'd consider to be your best stuff.

I would put the ones I like and think are good on FlickR or such.

The very best of my images would go on my personal website, as my portfolio, as such. It seems to work for me since it's generated interest and business for me.
