This video has only been view a few hundred times, so any Mascis fans may not have heard this version before.

Nothing special until about half way in...:cool:

    Heh, that was great!

To be regarded as a truly great guitarist, you have to be as adept on an accoustic as you are on an electric IMO. I say J play a accoustic version of Freak Scene on YouTube a while back and it was mind blowing.

So who's going to see Dino Jr in May? I can't wait to see 'em again!

that was cool, finally, a thread about J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr.

Im going in May too, can't wait. Can I add some videos too?

Here's my favourite version of a Dinosaur Jr Song live. It's from that Sonic Youth Tour Video 'the Year Punk Broke' I have it on ****ty vhs, hopefully it'll come out on DVD soon!

And then this from mroe recently.....

    My 100th post! :)

Yeah, I downloaded it a while back, but it's crap quality. Granted most(if not all) of it was shot ameteurly, I dunno how much better it'd be on DVD, but I too wish it would come out on DVD, especially since there'd probably be a load of bonus content on it.

Anyway, I'll add this, my favourite live Dinosaur Jr. video, despite the fact that they're old in it :p

Cool, it's weird cus Joe Cole the roadie who was best friends with henry rollinsa nd was killed in his house, can be seen at the side of the stage in the Freak Scene video. Dinosaur Jr and Henry Rollins go way back!

Ok, i'm gonna post one more, it has the worst sound quality ever, but I think it's got J's best guitar solo effort ever, hopefully when they play in May thy'll do it with this much energy...

Does anyone have the new album, is it worth getting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,230 ✭✭✭Beanstalk

I got it, i think its their best album since Bug. There's some awesome songs on it, and Lou Barlow wrote two as well, and they're just as good as any of J's. It's not often you get a band reunion putting out a good album, but if it's as good as their heyday then thats a rare treat and well worth getting.

Nice videos - especially the Thumb one. I had a copy of a live show in Brixton about 10 yrs ago where he did about 6 mins unaccompanied solo on the same song - wicked!

Their gig in Galway last year was great - but I was disappointed that they only play 1-2 songs from the post-Lou era, I think Out There was the only one that made it. No The Wagon or Thumb or Start Choppin'....still a great gig though.

Their new album is pretty good, but IMO not comparable with earlier stuff.

Heh, they started the show in Dublin with The Wagon, we got Feel the Pain and Out There as well.

No Raisans or Mountain Man though :(

    I hate you already. :(

I've missed them three times. The first time was kinda heartbreaking seeming as it was the first reunion gig. The second time I tried not to care but this third time is just getting ridiculous.
God damn stupid over 18 gigs and stupid leaving cert in June.

I might just chance my arm and go though.

    Anywho....

You're Living All Over Me > Dinosaur > Green Mind > Bug > Without A Sound

YLAOM must be one of the best alternative/post hardcore albums of the last 20 years.:pac:

    I was 17 when I went to see em last time, wasn't ID'd. :p

I was also in The Academy for Rattle and Hum(U2 tribute band, I don't like U2 but had free tickets) 2 weeks ago and wasn't ID'd there either (I am over 18 now though).

If you have a ticket you've paid money for and don't look ridiculously young you're not likely to be refused IMO. If you can, get a passport off an older person you know, preferably who looks a bit like you. Worst case scenario you can probably sell your ticket outside the venue.
