I was just wondering. Is there anyone else out there at the good old age of 31 and is still not on a definite path in life. I am not married, do not have a house and only earn about 30 to 35000 euro per year. I have a long term GF and want to marry her but Im afraid that Ill never be able to provide here with a house, good life etc.
I am only working part time as it is impossible for me to get a decent job cos I do not have any degree, just a cert. But I know that I am capable of doing anything if someone just gave me a chance. I dont want to go back to college.
    Thanks

first of all you are on a definite path in life, in terms of having a
long term relationship, thats a lot more than many people have.

secondly, there are many opportunities open to you
why not look at a FAS course. you prob need to open your mind
to a little further study if you want to progress, or else a practical
trade, which you can get through FAS or the IT colleges. the focus
there is on practical skills and not academia.

dont despair, if you did some research this time next year you
could be in a course working towards skilled full time employment.

I think this is your problem.

No one is going to give it to you. You have to go out and make it happen for yourself.

    Another problem.

You're making excuses. I know lots of people with no education who have great jobs.

I used to work with a 29 year old CEO. He never went to college. He never waited for someone to "give him a chance". He had no excuses. He simply made things happen.

I also find this very odd.

Why can you only get a part-time job? There are tons of full-time vacancies out there.

This is my advice for you:

    1. Stop making excuses
    2. Accept only you are responsible for your current situation
    3. Use the skills and experience you've learnt over the past 13 years to get a full-time job. Surely you have managed to get some skills under your belt? If not, consider college at night. If you like IT, Griffith College offers decent night Degrees. You'll be able to start in a junior IT or QA role. Within a few years you'll be earning decent money and have a decent career.

    ehm yes.
But I dont worry about it at all.

    Less worry, more action.
And to be honest you should be working full-time. I dont have a degree either, but I still manage to work full time.

Um a bit of perspective here maybe?

30-35k per year for a part time job is excellent money, I don't care what anyone says. I'm 25, and I earn 16k per year for my part-time job...and my partner doesn't earn a whole lot more. :) And we are both highly educated, and continuing in our educations as we go.

We find we have more than enough to enjoy our lives, and even can give away the surplus. We don't own a house yet but big deal. We are in the top 1% richest people on the planet - we'll get a house eventually.

Life is not about stuff and money. It just isn't. If you can't make 35k work for you, then you need to get financial advice. If you both earned that you'd get a mortgage no problem. You must be rubbish with money. It's a change of attitude you need, not more cash.

Sure the average industrial wage is around 33k a year,if you are earning 35 from a part time job you are doing a lot better than a lot of people.

As said before 30k-35k is fantastic for a part-time job!
Is there a reason you don't work full-time? And if you insist on staying part-time then you should be setting aside hours for training courses since you think that might help.

Hell, maybe even look at being self-employed if you don't want to work set hours. And you certainly don't need qualifications (leaving aside trades obviously) to do this. They'll help but imagination and initative will be more important.
Be warned, you'll probably end up working every hour of the day!
