changing language

    a mate of mne bought a laptop, and its in german even though it was bought in Ireland. when we changed the language settings etc it's still coming up in german, any ideas on how to chnage the thing to english?

    you have to format and re-install from an english language cd

    presume the cd-key will still work

    You need to get an English Windows install disk. Not sure that borrowing one and using German licence key will work though. Think they use different key sets for each language. So you might have to buy a install disk.

    can't understand why it's in german though, when bought in Ireland, bring it back to the shop is probably the best option is it?

    Absolutely! You expected it to be in English and it wasn't so it's not meeting your requirements.

    Probably a mistake by the manufacturer. My first PC (a gateway with win 95) came with the OS in French. Luckily back then you got a copy of the install disks so I just reinstalled the English version.
