DTT in Letterkenny?

    Hi,

I'm living in the outskirts of Letterkenny, high enough such that all the UK stations come in crystal clear with a loft antenna. I tried a search of any DTT channels, thinking I'd pick up a NI Mux but nothing. Would anyone know if Derry has DTT and if so, if the NI DTT is being shielded from the Republic (in my case, Letterkenny)?

I can pick up the Digital 1 Mux on DAB from NI.

Digital 1? Score Digital NI shurley! :)

Limavady has DTT, not Sheriff Mountain. Frequencies here. Might have interference from Truskmore, though...

DTT is only transmitted from 3 transmitters in NI: Brougher Mountain, Limavady and Divis.

Being in Letterkenny, there's a chance you might be able to pick up Limavady (depends on which part of town), though you'll probably need to swing your aerial (and/or change it) so that it's pointed towards Limavady.

Limavady uses Group C/D (horizontal) UHF:

    Ah, beaten to it! :)

Good point about Truskmore, as I see Mux C and D use the same UHF channels as TV3 and TG4.

Again it will depend on location in Letterkenny as some areas won't find Truskmore a problem.

Thanks for all the pointers! I'll try pointing my antenna towards Limavady and see what happens :) And DMC - you were right, it's Score Digital NI I was picking up, I was thinking of the Mux I pick up when I visit my sister in Lincolnshire...

I'll let you know if I pick up any DTT!

Unfortunately, after trying with an amplified portable antenna (and also using the main attic antenna), I was unable to pick up even the slightest trace of NI DTT from my house in Letterkenny (a little bit past the hospital up there).

I tried out my DAB receiver again (the little portable one I have) and I can pick up Score NI fine (60-75% of full signal) from the back of the house, facing the east) but the best I can get with the BBC Mux is 2 to 3 x '>' out of 15 - just enough to pick up the names but not strong enough to pick up any of the BBC stations' audio.

Oh well - after 2012, the signal strength will be 18 x stronger... Maybe I'll have better luck then ;)

Hmm, you say you're a bit past the hospital, so I'd imagine it can be possible. I know that from the Hospital rooftop, Limavady comes in strong! I'd guess that you'd need to put your aerial out on the rooftop to have any hope.
