    Guys,

Anybody have to do a medical b4 starting a job?? what exactly did it cover...

    Questionnaire?
    Blood Pressure?
    Bloods?
    Urine?
    Medication questionnaire?
    (bend over and cough haha)?

I have one coming up soon and im just curious to know whats involved, the job itself is desk bound so im curious why they are bothering.

    Thanks

Medicals are quite common. If it's a desk job, they'll probably check the basics, just as you listed. Eyesight may be tested as well.

Medicals are conducted so that the company has an idea of the state you are in when joining. If other ailments appear later, then they can compare to the initial medical.

If it was a manual job, then there's often a spinal check as well.

They are bothering so they are sure they are not hiring a DRUGGIE, or a Piss head and the like I would have thought.
Still, its a free health check for you - look at it that way.

I had to do one for my job and it was just blood pressure, listening to my chest and then taking a medical history. I think they just wanted to find out if I had any pre-existing conditions that might mean I would be out sick a lot.

Oh and mine is a desk job too!

It also stops people "suddenly developing a back injury" six months into the job and looking for compensation and similar.

worth bearing in mind that they can't not hire you if they find (heaven forbid) that you have cancer. Its only if you show up as a drug user, or have an excessive consumption of alcohol.

it'll just be regular tests to check that you are broadly functioning okay.
