Wiimote problem

This is driving me crazy, the wiimote that came with my wii has stopped working on the top part of my tv screen, I have another two wiimotes and they are working fine as number two and three wiimote, I also added them as wiimote number one and they are fine on the wii main menu screen.
    So what's the problem?
All the games only recognise the original wiimote as number one so when I launch a game with my number two/three wiimote acting as wiimote number one I get the "lost connection with wiimote" alert box and cannot play any games.

Had a websearch, could not find any solution so would appreciate some suggestions before world war wii

First things first, if you want to switch whichever remote is the "player 1" remote, just do a hard synch, using the button on the Wii console next to the SD slot. Read your manual for more info on this.

Now, when you say "stops working", do you mean the cursor disappears before it reaches the top of the screen?

If that's the case, it's probably that the wiimote can't see the sensor bar when it's tilted up beyond a certain angle. Since other remotes work okay I'll assume the sensor bar is well-positioned, but there may be dirt on the lower half of the IR screen on the front your remote. Or it may be blocked by something else. If you have a remote "glove" or whatever they are, make sure to take it off and try it.

If you stand up and hold the remote really high, is it still having the same problem?

Maybe something that's loose behind the IR camera's viewport is blocking it? Do you hear anything when you shake it? Worst case scenario is that part of the IR CCD inside the remote is damaged and will never work again.

If you've tried everything, call Nintendo. Their customer support has always been outrageously good to me, and they might be able to help you.

If all else fails, try your hand at cracking the thing open and playing around with the inside.
