    Hi All

Any advice on this. I want to take a group on a 4 or 5 hr trek in this area. Notting stressfull as it will be our first outing.
Where do we start, How do we get there etc.

    All comments welcome

I've hiked around this area a few times. I started at Coumshingaun (on the Carrick on Suir - Lemybrien road) and went up and over the top and down by Mahon, but I think that may be a bit too much for a 1st outing, depending on your fitness level of course.

Have any of you experience in mountain walking? If it is a first outing then you should ideally have someone experienced in Irish mountain walking/navigation/safety with you.

The Comeraghs are basically one big plateau, which is a double edged sword. You gain a lot of height pretty quickly, but once you're up the terrain is pretty flat. On the other hand there are also a lot of cliffs and if visibility falls you can find yourself in trouble if you don't know how to navigate well.

The top of the range is riddled with peat hags and gulleys, some of them quite deep and has no end of seasonal streams draining down to the various rivers that the Comeraghs give birth to.

It's handy to get to Mulan, just follow the sign posts on the main Cork/Waterford road. There is a large car park near the falls, which on the weekends is normally busy enough, but during the week is quiet. There have been a large number of break-ins to vehicles for some years now, although I've never had trouble I know a couple of people who have had stuff nicked/windows smashed.

    Thanks guys

Is there a circular route we can take from mahon falls. 4 to 5 hrs.

I would hope to have an experienced hillwalker with us.

    Thanks again

We are planning on doing this walk soon. We havent done it before but were wondering is it some place we could bring the dogs with us? Or is the terrain too steep? Thanks
