What kind of ping time should I expect on a 3mb NTL connection? How does this look?

NTL are still routing through the netherlands so ping will not be the best to some places.

    What's a good ping time?

NTL are still routing through the netherlands so ping will not be the best to some places.

They're also routing through INEX. In any case, it doesn't make much of a difference to latency. I still get <40msec pings to the uk internet for instance.

    On the 6mbit/512kbit package..

A "good" ping time is relative silvine - for FPS games (probably the most latency-sensitive thing you'll be doing) anything below 40-50ms is perfect.

Wonderful isn't it!, and this is offpeak. I get packet loss and 300-400ms during peak hours.

So if upgrade to a 6mb NTL package I should see my ping time decrease?

don't count on it , i have the 6 meg ntl package and the ping time can go from low 20 ms to high 80 ms ping times on the speed test.

pings to boards are good though:

Why is the upload speed not more important when it comes to gaming online? Surely the faster the speed my computer uploads information to the server I am playing on will benefit me? i.e. my response time will be quicker

I'm surprised to see even a hint of an erratic ping from NTL. Seems like DSL ping times are a bit more reliable. Here is mine =
