No only bank holiday Mondays happen on a Monday, bank holidays on the other hand can happen any day of the week.

I thought it was a bank holiday and not a public holiday, but wikipedia claims it is not a bank holiday. Though most banks will be closed, so in effect it is a bank holiday but seems unofficial. I know people who work in banks who do work on public holidays and bank holidays.

it is a bank holiday, not a public holiday. No statutory leave entitlements. Luckily I work for a proper bank and I'm off tomorrow.

Heard a guy on the phone this evening saying that his employee could have tomorrow off but the day would come out of his annual leave! Harsh!

These bank holidays are a bit of an anachronism. The only day of the year as far as I can tell that is a real bank holiday (i.e. a day that banks close??) anymore is Good Friday. All other bank holidays are public holidays with some statutory entitlements in terms of time off / time in lieu / extra pay etc.

While many companies seem to observe good friday as a holiday none of them have to (apart from the banks but thats probably just a union thing).
