Sorry didn't know where to post it and this is the most popular board.

Sent away for my age card on the first week in February and using my reference number on the website they said it was due for posting on the 29th of February. Now 20 days later i'm still waiting.

Is this usual or if not who should I contact.

    Thanks

Afaik, they always take ages. I know some people who waited 3+ months to receive theirs.

Maybe contact the garda station that you gave the form into, they may be able to look into it for you.

I wish my picture wasn't so blurry on mine...... It's dodgey enough that I have poxy long hair and am completely pale, but having it blurry as well is just asking for hastle!

Had to use it the other day actually, cos apparantly off licenses (Molloy's anyway) don't accept drivers licences!

Don't you legally have to take a licence as proof? The age-card on the other hand is a proper load, the government was supposed to in act a law to make it legal ID, so places had to accept it, but got distracted by something shiny...

    Or so I hear.

Molloys *only* I'd say. My local off licence won't even take age cards due to how many are fake, anyway - driving licence or passport only. Neither will my local pub - driving licence, passport, NUIM and only NUIM student ID work.

Also, anywhere thats ever been age card only, I've asked them to get a guard to refuse my passport in front of - never failed to work. I've no idea if theres any legal basis behind it, but... usually scares the staff/the manager as it was in Lidl in to just selling me the booze :D

Slightly off topic, but just reading above about certain offos refusing garda id.
I was in tesco a few months ago and saw a man, easily in his mid to late twenties get asked for id, and when he produced a passport, the cashier refused to look at it and insisted on an age card! The man, getting pissed off at this stage, asked for the manager, manager came down and refused to accept it. It was almost surreal watching it.

I used to work in tesco, it is company policy not to take anything but an age card. Last I heard they were meant to change that to allow passports though.

My age card took 2 weeks to arrive. That was over 4 years ago though. Think I got lucky. I never use it anyway.

Do you have to be 18 to apply for one? Like could apply a month before you turn 18 so you'd be able to use it sooner?

Last time I checked you had to be 18.

If I was in my mid to late 20s, I'd say that was probably me, but I'm in my early 20s and don't look that much older...

The manager in Tesco in Celbridge some years was a total bollox until I got our my mobile and rang 11811 for the phone number of the police station across the road...

I really don't get why they take one which is infamous for being faked via Garda's kids getting dodgy forms stamped, etc, etc though and then refuse one which the Minister for Foreign Affairs guarantees as accurate.

I think they accept it now .
A few months ago I went into buy drink there and when presented with a driving license two members of staff were unsure whether they were allowed accept it as ID or not so they asked a more senior member who said passport or Garda ID only .

I go home and come back with my passport , different till and I'm not even asked for ID

One of my mates got his in under two weeks, but I've heard they normally take two to three months...

Kind of funny how that happens sometimes.

I turned 18 two months ago and have not been asked for my ID once, kinda funny because when I was 17 I was always being asked (thats another story), like I was in lidl buying a crate there last weekend and ive been told that I look as young as 16 at times yet still didn't get asked, I had my drivers licence ready and all to show like.

Realy just depends on who's serving you unless there under strict orders to check all ID.

Going by some of the posts anyway I wont hold my breath for my age card.

Thats really funny I was in Tesco in Cork about 6 months ago i was only 17 at the time and I got a slab of bulmers no problem the man behind the counter didn't even look for an id crazy when you think about it. By the way i'm waiting for my age card for a month no sign yet.

I'd say it depends on whether there's a manager nearby or not.....

Just wondering... what sort of ID should my daughter who is nineteen have for the ****** concert? All she has is a passport with a little girl's photo on it!

Would a USIT ID be sufficient? I really dont fancy her waiting months for a Garda age card. She'll miss the concert then... and I wont get a break from her!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Never bothered getting one, neither did most people I know. I've got a friend who did get one and he was constantly refused - clubs, off licenses, everywhere, even places that accepted ****ty student ID.

    It's a total farce.

Does a 19 year old need I.D for a concert?
I'd imagine the passport will be sufficent. Has she got a college I.D or anything to show along with the passport?

Do people even get asked for IDs at concerts unless they are clearly younger than allowed?

Passport should do as long as the photo looks like it could have been her as a child! Get on to the promoters, etc, or check the website to be sure.

Not 100% sure, but I reckon they only ID people at gigs where there is drink readily available. Depends who is running the gig I suppose

I remember about 2 years ago Molloy's asked me for id. I produced my age card and received my beer.

I was getting smokes for a friend so when i returned to the house i checked the receipt to see what he owed me. On the receipt it had me charged 5c twice for Garda check. I know its 10c but why am i being charged to prove i'm over 18 with a card i already paid for

    Anyone else seen this lately?

i presume you're talking about o.xegen seeing as it's all starred out!

    here's your answer...

    "AGE RESTRICTIONS
What kind of ID do I need to bring to prove my age?
To prove your ID and age when entering the festival, the following forms of ID will be accepted: passport, photo driving licence, Garda ID or official school or college ID with a colour photo copy of your passport.

Does this mean I can use my student travel card?
No it has to be official school or college ID - i.e the one issued by your school or college and in a credit card format, not on a piece of card that has been laminated. Plus you'll also have to bring a colour photocopy of your passport as well."

if you're doesn't looks her age and not like a 14yr old then i seriously doubt she'll be asked for id.

    That concert doesn't require ID........
I went when I was 15 and I got in no hassle..........any id will suffice in case she is asked!
