hi all, well a helicopter just crashed a few hours ago in the back of my field, I know it's hard to believe, now I have some good shots of rescuers etc. atm the rescue crew are gone after being evacuated by helicopter and I don't think anyone got any shots.
So how do I go about sending off the photos to news/newspapers ? etc. and copyright ?
    thanks

Forget copyright, get them out to the news desks!
Look up the websites of every major media outlet & tell them what you've got.
Make sure you find out how much they'll pay & where to send the invoice.

I presume they were your photos RTE News just flashed up on screen?! :)

talk about a hectic evening, yep they were my pics on the rte news, the star newspaper have bout 1-3 of them and the Irish times may have bought 1, have to buy the paper to see.
here are a few shots from the rescue

These are just straight raw to jpeg conversions, and of course I forgot to bring my lens cover and as the rescue helicopter arrived it started to drizzle in a kind of foggy way, which was a pain, I ended up using the camera one handed and one hand to the side of the lens

Other media outlets could lift them from flickr.
I'd hide them for a few days yet.
    Have you contacted the Herald?

You weren't quick enough with the camera. :p

I always wondered, in a situation like this, if you were the first person on the scene, should take pictures first & check for survivors second?

I know the emergency services were on hand in this case, but I'm just trying to be prepared, in case I'm in such a situation.

Thats some situation to be in, good work selling them :)

Bit of a stinger for the pilot.....he crashes a helicopter and straight away they throw him into the back of another one ;)

Haven't seen anything in the news today, is the pilot OK?

I think he has serious injuries but not life threaten (dont know how to spell that word). It was about 350 yards from my house, never heard a thing, the only alert was the sirens stopping outside the house.

More helicopters coming over this morning, I think theyre trying to find a way to remove the helicopter, problem is that it's in a drained bog, its been raining heavy for the last few days plus it has a 4 foot waterway around the field.

I'm still taking pictures, should be interesting to see how they get the helicopter out.

My house is the one where the "purple line" stops on the map, and "B"

trucks are coming up the road dumping rocks into the field, they're making a driveway into the field, even jeeps had trouble getting in and out yesterday. So they are going to bring up the helicopter by my house so if anyone wants to take a look follow the directions on the map above.
Outside the house yesterday there were 2 fire brigades, 2 squad cars and 1 unmarked car, on the other road (rathoath road) , they had 2 more fire brigades and 2 ambulances as well.

I'd forget about the camera and do whatever i could to help. At the very least you should be making sure that the emergency services are informed. Whatever you do after that is between you and your conscience. :)

Make sure you get your invoices out A.S.A.P. as you'll be waiting around 6 weeks to get paid.

just to let you know, the helicopter is now gone, very efficient, except for leaving 2 dumping trucks stuck in the swamp  .So its on the back of a truck heading off to goramnstown, have a load more photo's I'll pop them up when I get a chance
