    Oh laptop guri..

I wish to install Ultimate64 on my vostro and in preparation for it, I'm looking or 64bit drivers for my lappy; the usual stuff like wifi, LAN, audio [the display I can get from that laptop driver website that a few folks have mentioned]

Problem is that Dell doesn't seem to have any drivers or 64bit vista on their website. :/

The drivers I currently have on the recovery disk and on the recovery partition, are they both 32/64 can anyone confirm?

Is there anything I'm missing also?

    Thanks

Download a program called everest. It will tell you the exact name of the devices installed. This will with the search help especially for things like the audio driver.

What's the etiquette here? Do you thank someone who has thanked you? If so, when will it end??????? :p

I found a pretty cool forum dedicated to vista 64 bit. They have a forum dedicated to obtaining drivers. When you get the name of the device then do a search there and you might find it. If you don't stick up a thread there, they'll probably know where to get it.

Right-o, 4gig of RAM ordered thanks to a link on BA :)

    64bit Ultimate arrived today.

    Backing up time starts tonight!

    ->Question!

With the recovery partition on the Dell laptop; Can I copy that entire partition to a dvd or a second hdd and recover from there??

I don't know. Do you have the vista disks? If so, use them instead of a recovery partition. A recovery partition usually has all the bloatware installed in it whereas a format using the vista disk won't.

Yeah but doesn't the recovery disk just start the procedure from the hdd partition then?

<e> seems the vista disk dell gave me is a full install disk. Nice.

Yep, with the recovery partition you don't need a disk but formatting is always the better option. Get rid of the recovery partition if you want to save the extra few GBs of hard drive space.

After a bit of googling it's the Media Direct disk that is used to recover.

I think it's Acronis that has a backup util I'll use after I install. RAM arrived today so all going well I'll start an install either tonight or tomorrow.

    Backup Checklist:

    1) Steam
    2) CoD4 profile + other saved games
    3) My Docs
    4) partial downloads

    Required for install:

    1) x64 gpu drivers
    2) x64 LAN/wifi drivers
    3) x64 audio drivers

That should get me thru until vista is installed and can update right?

:( Ultimate64 doesn't like one of my external hardrives which ironically I had backup up the vast majority of my old stuff too :(

Yet to try the lv2g modded gpu drivers but vista got drivers for the card anyway.

No card reader drivers and one or two other things. Not so bad thus far.

Changed the page file to 600-1200megs on account of the extra RAM in the machine.

Re.install again last night, seemed the iso I had gotten didn't require activation :/

I can confirm the vista key received at the MS Event works and activates Vista Ultimate x64 fully.

No driver problems now, everything has been picked up fine, card reader and all. I didn't check the modded gpu drivers yet tho but I may not need them.
