I need two new Tyres. My local Advanced Pitstop quoted mr €220 per tyre (Toro Torexes T1R's) but I can get them from www.eiretyres.com for €115 each - a substantial saving.

However, most places will not fit tyres purchased elsewhere. Anyone know who will, preferably in South Dublin?

    Thanks

    Their site says:
Wide-spread network of fitting centres – 183 tyre fitters in Ireland.

Have you asked them for details?

Edit: They have a list of fitters on the site €10 - €15 per tyre.

In the shop, on right navigation bar theres a search function for fitters, 10 euro a tyre fitted and balanced.

Just got my tyres delivered, now need them fitted. That list on their website is Awful! I can't find any near me! (Blackrock)

HashSlining, what is the address/phone of the sandyford tyre center? I need to know if they are open late tonight. Or are there any others around the Dun Laoghaire, Stillorgan, Blackrock that anyone knows of?

Look at the link that Redsoxfan listed - it's all there. Just type in 01 into the dialling code box and you can get the Dublin ones.

To make it easy - here's one:

    Atlas Tyres (Stillorgan Tyre Centre
Portgate Business Park Lower Kilmacud RdtUni
    Monkstown / Co Dublin
    Telephone:: 01 2883535

I just called them - he said "They have our number on the site but we do not deal with them" he asked me what tyres, size and how many - I said: Toyo Proxes T1R's, 204/45/17" two typres - he said he wanted €60!

    What a ripoff!!

Zascar - Sandyford Tyre center should be here:
    http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=53.272951,-6.227569&spn=0.001078,0.002001&z=18
There's a Maxol (?) filling station there and they're just to the side of it.

Got a couple of tyres from them a month ago and they were 100 quid cheaper than what Advance quoted me. Was going to buy online but I'd a puncture in one and they gave me a good price so went with them. They also managed to get them in a lot quicker than what Advance were telling me.

Your still going to save €170 - get em on the car - they are no good anywhere else......

Be happy in the knowledge that you are €170up, as most folk could not be arsed.

Really ? And you've priced a tyre changing machine and balancer, lately ??

Not much use for the OP in this case but www.camskill.co.uk seem to be cheaper than eiretyres for many tyres!

i think the tyre fitters in this country are copping on to people buying on the internet thus making them lose the extortionate mark-up they've being charging on tyres for years thats why they are charging so much for fittng and balancing
i saved at least 450 euro on 4 tyres i bought from the uk this week and there coming balanced and fitted to the wheels im getting with them :D

A lot of small time mechanics do tyres and have no hangups about fitting other people's tyres. Most will have balancing and optical front alignment gear.

Cost of equipment me arse. Every business has to invest.

I bought tyres on Eiretyres last year and went to a fitter listed on their site in Drogheda. The fitter said they knew nothing about the site and couldn't undersand how they were listed. The said they'd contact Eiretyres to get themselves removed from the list. However, they're still there.

I found a little place in Gormanston on the way back that fitted them for a very reasonable price.

Eiretyres is great value and underlines how much we're being ripped off by the established tyre dealers here.

Guess it makes sense to check with fitter before ordering tyres online. Had it in mind to do this myself before I saw this thread as the list on the eiretyres site doesn't really look 'official'.

What about delivery-how do tyres from eiretyres arrive? Would they deliver them direct to a fitter in your name?

Would it be good idea for anyone who has bought tyres online to say where they got them fitted and what it cost?

Some garages allow tyres to be sent directly to them, a user from here recently had tyres sent to us and we fit and balanced them.

If you check eiretyres they have a list of fitters so just get one close to your area

One of the guys I work with ordered winter tyres from Eiretyres in November. He got the fitting organised through the site and had the tyres sent to the fitters directly. They called him when the tyres arrived and he just popped over and they fitted them for him while he waited (I think he paid about €15 per corner too). Will try to find out more details tomorrow if you like.

I've ordered tyres from eiretyres a few times. The first 2 times I tried getting them to deliver to a fitter because there was no on at home. Both times they arrived at my door, even after double checking with them the 2nd time.. So I gave up and just made other arrangements for delivery after that.

One of the tyre fitters listed claimed no knowledge of any arrangement to fit eiretyres tyres and although they did fit them, wouldnt do it for the price quoted on the site.

€20 is too much - the norm is €15

    Zombie thread BTW!

Do it yourself so..! There's now no profit in supplying the tyres for him and now you want the labour for cheap? Pay the man his monies, I'll bet that he worked harder for that e60 than the warehouse who supplied the tyres and I'm sure they got more than e60 out of the deal...

Whats the going hourly rate for fitting tyres do you think?
It takes a very maximum of half an hour to fit and balance two tyres.
So he is asking for €60 per half hour (probably less) labour.
After some complex calculations i work that out to be €120 labour per hour.
    Seem fair to you?

 Because the last thing you'd wanna do is shop around for some good value, I've never paid more then €15 a corner for this, any fitters quoting higher in my eyes just don't want the business, which is fair enough but I'd never use them again if they're slapping away money in times like these, but I guess people will always need tyres...

True, maybe he doesn't want the business...

I know its great to get value but it shouldn't be at any cost, for example 2 liters of milk for €1- farmer can't be making much on that...

Similarly, the garage has rent, rates, wages, equipment cost/loan/lease, light, heat, smokes and soon water charges. The operating costs of the business for the time involve may be €40 ish, so €20 profit before the tax man gets his hands on it... Now if you are not busy, it makes sense to do the job and take the €20 but if you are busy supplying and fitting tyres or doing alignments it really doesn't...

Also, why would these garages facilitate these online businesses that are in competition with them. The one thing that the online business does not have is the fitting facility in every county of Ireland and this is how they can provide the product for less.

    Just my 2c

IMO a very fair price is €15-20 per corner to include disposal.

If they moan about the disposal prices, bring the old ones to your nearest county council amenity centre, Here in Westmeath I can dispose all 4 for a princely sum of €2 (you can also fill your car with other stuff too :D).

    7.50 a corner balanced,

Never paid more than 10 euro a corner, takes about 20 -30 min to do 4 tyres in my local garage, I usually take the tires out leave them beside the wheels and loosen up the lock nuts for them 40 euros for 30min work, not to be sniffed at during these harsh economic times. Couple of those a week might be all the difference to one of the smaller tyre places.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭daveharnett

Also, why would these garages facilitate these online businesses that are in competition with them.
Because if a garage doesn't take the money, another one (or a dude working from the back of a van) will.

IMO, they are in a different market than the online boys - they are selling a service, plus tyres on the side for those too lazy/uninformed/stuck to wait 48 hours for a delivery. Amazon might be a lot cheaper, but Eason/Waterstones/O' Mahony's are still around.

I saved almost €1,000 on tyres for a Land Rover Discovery. Got some top of the range all season tyres delivered. Took about a week for eiretyres to deliver them.

I rang Advance Pitstop to see if they'd fit them because I work in Dublin and it would have been handier. The guy that answered the phone asked me where I got them, openly bitched about online retailer, said he'd have to check to see if my new tyres were 'road legal' first (haha! good one!) and then wanted €25 per wheel.

Got back home to Baltinglass, rang the local garage Dunnes Auto and he threw them on for €10 a wheel. Very very reasonable price for fitted tyres and balanced wheels including disposal of the old tyres. Delighted. I'd much rather give business to the local businesses than a faceless chain.

Obviously some garages have hangups about the online guys taking 'their' business. I don't see how refusing money to fit tyres is going to help them compete though! Honestly, I would take a good deal on tyres if offered one by an Irish garage. The price difference is astronomical though.

I've found that if you shop around you can get very good prices on tyres, i got 4 new 20' tyres fitted in dundalk, they were €10 more a corner then any online site but they were fitted.

i think large independent tyre place offer the best value at the minute

    *update*

below were the tyres i got, €1.20 (eire must have upped the price)more from a garage fitted, balanced, and new stem fitted so better overall. Not sure if were allowed mention garages here but Shane Mcmanus in dundalk did these for me in 30 mins and i would highly recommend him to anyone for new tyres.

    http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?details=Ordern&cart_id=16567507.124.19639&typ=R-105178&ranzahl=4&Breite=295&Quer=45&Felge=20&Speed=H&weiter=0&kategorie=6&Ang_pro_Seite=15&sort_by=preis&Transport=P&tyre_for=OFF&dsco=12

Also are eiretyres based in ireland, there is some online tyre company with ireland or eire in the title but can't remember, but they were based in Germany .

Eiretyres has those listed at €183 - so how much did you actually pay for yours? And did you get a further discount because of buying 4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭Rob C

Well I bought a tyre on Camskills and went to Sandyford Atlas and they charged me a tenner to fit it. Not only that, they quoted me a price for the tyre at their place, fitted as well that worked out less then the Camskills website selling price.

They are very good there, always give you good prices. And a nice waiting room with free coffee and tea and Wifi. Highly recommend. I've had a few tyres done there lately and they've never gone above the Camskills/Eiretyres prices.

Baskin Tyres in Swords will also fit them for about a tenner. They're in Baskin lane.

Cost 185 each when buying 4, just rang said needed 4 and that was the price given and there was no haggling,

just checked the link and it brings me to the German site so i answered my own question above about them being German, I was just wondering for VAT purposes

i was going to go down the online option but i rang around up north and got the same tyres for bascially the same price fitted all in, the tyres were 75 a corner on camskill and fitted up north 85 so cant complain and can get them fitted tomorrow probably could have saved a small bit by going online but not worth it in my case

Thats good, just make sure the tyres they fit are the ones you ordered :P

I'd rather have them delivered to my door and bring them up myself to the fitting centre.

Nice to have the choice though. I might be able to fit 4 tyres in my estate, but certainly wouldn't have been able to in my coupe!
