Good Friday (Pub/Off Licence)

    Hi All,

My girlfriend works in an off-licence. The management aren't the most pleasant people in the world, but at the risk of going on about it, i'll keep to the point!!

Scenario: She worked 11 extra hours from Thursday last week to today (Thursday). She only got paid for 3 extra hours.

She asked management where her other 8 hours pay was and their response was "you won't be working the full 40 hours next week". She asked if she is getting paid for Good Friday and they said yes?

They are full of bullsh1t and basically trying to get out of paying her for Good Friday, even though it has nothing to do with the week she has just done.

Sorry if all this doesn't make 100% sense, but if they have to close on Good Friday, I'm sure they are legally obliged to pay her for it?? (nevermind the fact she has already worked the extra hours!!!)

I've tried all the usual websites and found nothing ... thanks for the replies in advance.

my guess is that if she is on a regular contract then she is entitled to her bank holidays. If she is on an hourly contract then she is entitled to a pro-rata allowance for bank holidays.

Fairly certain that it is not allowed, but i don't know exactly why.

Good friday isn't a bank holiday.
If she does 40 hours this week anyway (including time from bank holiday on monday) then she is owed the 11 hours,
if she misses hours due to friday then they either take it from hols, from time in lieu (the extra she worked) or they adjust pay accordingly.

For example, I missed 2 days this week, paddys day and tomorrow,
I get a days pay for paddys day as it is a bank holiday, I get a holiday day for friday,
A company could decide to pay wages on friday, ie treat it as a bank holiday, but that would be there choice, its not an actual bank holiday

Thanks Guys ... Yeah she called in to citizens info or somewhere just now, and they told her more or less the same. That's the situation as I understand it.. Our company here is closing tomorrow and we have to take a holiday, but the off license are forced to close by law, so thought that might have panned out a bit different for people working there, obviously not though!!
