I have a problem with microsoft licensing.
We need to see what licenses we require but are not sure what is actually needed.
Do you need any extra license for accessing a MS SQL server other than the CALs for XP/2003 server?

Microsoft not being very helpful even though they want to charge for this service. Should microsoft be concerned about third party apps, they are being very pushy re this issue

I've had some dealings with Mickysoft licencing, but far from an expert. Here's what I think:

To answer your query, yes need still need to purchase SQL CALS. Theres 2 options:

    (1) per user or
    (2) per device.

I believe they are the same price but its for you to work out what's cheaper i.e. how many "users" will be accessing the SQL server, or how many "devices".

We have a global agreement with MS and deal with HP OLS for the licensing end. They're quite helpful on the phone.

What types of concern about 3rd party apps?

Give Micromail a call. They're very helpful with licensing questions. MS don't really deal directly with customers I find.

I think it's around 4K for Workgroup, 6k for Standard. Only worth considering if you have more than 20 users.
