Usually it lasts until 12-14 weeks.

Dry toast is great fpr soaking up the nauseous feeling..or melba toast..any dry food really.

If its really bad during the day you can get sea sickness band from any chemist you can put on your wrists..they are great!

Make sure you drink plenty of water!

OP you have all my sympathy, i had the most horrendus morning sickness which lasted all day, on really bad days I would literally roll around the bed throwing up into a basin, not even able to hold down water. But you don't need to hear that!

There are no hard and fast rules about when it starts or stops, i woke up one day in my 14th week as right as rain! However there are some things you can do to help ease it a little.

    1) Those sea bands you can get in chemists are great. I could never work out whether they had a placebo effect or not, but either way they seemed to work! I never took mine off

    2) Dry toast first thing BEFORE you get out of bed can help.

    3) If you can stomach it, sipping fresh ginger in some water is really good. You can buy pure ginger in liquid form from a homeopathic practitioner, or possibly in a health food shop. One girl I knew swore by ginger nut biscuits, I wasn't too keen on these..

    4) I used to sip flat 7up all day in work. Definitly minimised the trips to the bathroom in the morning!

5)Avoid greasy foods, they definitly make you feel worse.

6)I don't know how you normally travel to work, but do avoid getting the bus at all costs. Even thinking about it now makes me nauseous.

Not all of these things work for everyone but give them a shot and you'll find one that works for you.

On a more positive note, morning sickness is a surefire sign that all is well and your baby is growing nicely! So do take some reassurance from that! It is hard, and unless someone has been through it they won't understand how bad it can get, but it WILL PASS! One day you'll wake up and you won't believe how different you feel. A general guide would be between 12-14 weeks.

Best of luck and congrats on your pregnancy. It'll all be worth it in the end. Promise. :)

You poor sausage, hopefully it won't last long. Sipping at ginger has helped a few friends so perhaps you could give that a try OP?

Hi there you poor thing, defo get those sea sickness bands and wear them night and day, dont even take them off when youre asleep as i found when i did and woke up feeling dreadful. Dont drink anything while youre eating. Wait a while for the food to go down as this can make you more nausous. Make sure you dont let yourself go hungry, every few hours have a small nibble of a plain biccie or toast or a cracker. And like another person said stay clear of greasy foods. And get as much rest as you can even if its just lying on the sofa and always keep your feet up when you can. A nurse said to me, dont stand up if you can sit down, dont sit down if you can put your feet up, dont put your feet up if you can lie down.....COngratulations and fingers crossed it'll only last a wee while and sickness does mean that theres is loads of hormones in your body which means babys doing well.

If it gets severe go to your maternity hospital, they may have to rehydrate you by a drip if you can't keep enough fluids down. They can also give you an anti-nausea injection which supposedly works miracles.

Good luck, and congratulations!! Hope you feel better soon.

    Hi
I am going through this at the moment as well. Lucozade is my saviour at the moment

I find it is worse for me when I am feeling tired, So make sure you are getting plenty of early nights. Eat little and often and try to eat food full of proteins that will keep you going for longer.

It normally lasts up to 14 weeks.

the only good thing about it is that it is a really healthy sign for your pregnancy!!

    Congrats

It should be gone by the first trimester - luckily my wife didnt suffer much from it. They say to reduce morning sickness dont eat large meals just reduce to a number of small meals, dont eat late at night - may be a an old wifes tail or just crap from our doctor. Good luck with the pregnancy.
