Problem with ipoker on my laptop

(apologies in advance if this should be in the tech forum)

I've been having problems with ipoker on my laptop as of last week or so. I've not played any online poker since I discovered this problem. I hope someone out there can help me out as I havent a clue whats wrong.
    • Basically when I log into my usual ipoker skin, PPP, I go to the cashier to transfer money from my sportsbook to my poker account. However the cashier function does not work-when I click it, it starts loading but then stops and all I get is the PPP logo.
    • When I sit at a table, nothing comes up in the chat box, no player actions, no summary, no nothing...
    • Nonetheless I played a lil bit of poker maybe 40 hands before giving up with fustration. There was no hand history for that little session in the history folder.
    • The problems coincided with my installation of HoldemManager but I had already experienced this problem briefly(perhaps for two days) about a couple of weeks beforehand.
I have contacted PPP for help, they suggested a couple of things which I did to no avail (un-install & re-install/temporaily switch off anti-virus/disabling firewall/ensuring windows, java and flash are up to date)

I am having the same problems with other ipoker skins. PPP works fine on my old computer, so my ISP must be grand. It must be my laptop. And I cant figure out what the problem is because other than the ipoker problems, my laptop has been performing grand. So basically I'm confused as hell. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. :)

there is usually an ad in the top right or across the bottom of the lobby (probably for the Irish Open), can you see that?

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Firewall and ensure it is switched to off.

yeah it definitely sounds like a firewall problem or a problem in the way Internet Explorer is set up. There is a known bug with iPoker where it needs IE to be working to do stuff like the ads and the cashier. Do you normally use IE for web browsing? If so does it work OK on the PPP website?

Cheers RT.. I use Firefox and I've no problems with the PP website. Logged in and out of my sportsbook no bother.. But just checked IE now and went to the PP website and the page loaded perfectly except the bit where you enter your username and password. Weird!!

see if you can log into neteller or online banking or something else secure in IE then.

Appreciate your help so far RT! Have successfully logged into paypal & gmail using IE. Although nothing comes up for this http://email.secureserver.net/ in IE. it appears properly in firefox... Think its clear that its a problem with IE on my laptop...

yeah I don't know what else you can try now, maybe try reinstalling IE/making sure you have the latest version and patches. But now that you have it narrowed down that it is an IE problem you can ask the question in one of the computers forums instead of the poker forum, you will probably find someone who knows what is wrong.

If it's IE7 on Windows XP you could try uninstalling it and going back to IE6.
